Äkta människor is a Swedish science fiction drama series from 2012 and 2013 written by Lars Lundström. The first season premiered on 22 January 2012 on SVT 1. The second season premiered on 1 December 2013. Both seasons consist of ten one-hour episodes each. The cast includes Andreas Wilson, Eva Röse, Leif Andrée, Johan Paulsen, Pia Halvorsen, Marie Robertson and Lisette Pagler.
The first season of Äkta människor was directed by Harald Hamrell (episodes 1-4 and 9-10) and Levan Akin (episodes 5-8). The second season was directed by Harald Hamrell (episodes 1-4), Kristina Humle (episodes 5-7) and Christian Eklöw with Christopher Panov (episodes 8-10).
The series was produced by Sveriges Television and Matador Film in cooperation with Danish Radio and YLE, with the support of the Nordic Film and TV Fund and the Nordvision Fund. The rights to an American version were sold to Kudos Film & Television prior to its premiere, and Shine International has purchased the rights to distribute the series internationally. As of April 2013, nearly 50 countries have purchased the rights to show the first season.
In September 2013, the series' creator Lars Lundström won the Best Screenwriter award at the Seoul Drama Awards in South Korea. In the same month, the series won the prestigious Prix Italia television award for Best TV Series.
