Česká televize is a Czech state television broadcaster. It is the successor to Československá televize, the state broadcaster of Czechoslovakia. Česká televize and Československá televize have operated their own dubbing department, the Dabingové studio České televize (dubbing studio of Czech television), since 1964.

History[]

The history of the Dabingové studio České televize begins in 1964, when a fire broke out in Televizní studio Brno Dabing, which had only just begun operations. At the beginning of the 1960s, there were already several live broadcasts of foreign films in which the Czech lines were simultaneously performed in the Prague studio during the broadcast, but proper dubbing recordings on tape were not made until 1964.

The first film to be properly dubbed there was Hamlet from 1948. Since then, over 4000 films have been dubbed for television and home media at ČT's facilities.
