Not to be confused with the 2017 dub. |
ברבאבא (also known as סיפורי ברבאבא) is one of two Hebrew dubs of Barbapapa. It is the first Hebrew dub of the series, proceeding the 2017 Hop! dub of the same name. At first, episodes of ברבאבא were included in Channel 1's show "טלפלא" ("Telepele") starting 1978; these episodes aired as a part of a series where an episode of an animated series (either Barbapapa or Simon in the Land of Chalk Drawings) aired in a middle of an episode.
Later in 1979, the series started to air individually on the channel as "סיפורי ברבאבא" ("Barbapapa Stories"). Each episode of the dub aired with two segments. The series aired through the 1980s and the 1990s.[1]
When טלפלא re-aired on the channel between the 2010s as a part of a block along with older Israeli shows, episodes with Barbapapa segments were included as well. Episodes of טלפלא also started to air on Kan Educational starting at an unknown date, as a part of a block along with older Israeli shows; episodes of Barbapapa were included as well.

- Because of the dub's popularity in Israel, a song of the same name, inspired by the series, was written by Yoram Taharlev and composed by Nurit Hirsh for the Israeli Kids Song Festival in Hanukkah 1978; it was originally performed by the Israeli actress Tzipi Shavit. It won the second place, and became a classic in the Israeli culture. The lyrics were also changed by people in Chabad.
- In the majority of טלפלא episodes, the series aired with no opening or credits. The episode "Barbamama" is the only known episode to air with the opening, which was instrumental.
- The phrase the Barbapapas use when transforming is translated as "טיקיטיקוץ, ברבאקונץ!".
- Similar to the original, Yitzhak Shimoni does the voices for all of the characters in both seasons. In the original version, this only happens in season one.
