أحلام تيمي is one of several Arabic dubs of The Fairly OddParents. As the third Arabic dub of the series, it covers the first 69 episodes, purchased under a license from Animation International. The dub premiered on Spacetoon on May 5, 2016, and it was broadcasted until 2019.[1]

Unlike the Pro Production/Neo Productions dub, which was dubbed into Egyptian dialect, this dub was dubbed into Modern Standard Arabic.

Censorship[]

  • Unlike the previous Disney/Nickelodeon dub, the Spacetoon dub removes the reference to 'magic' from the series title. In the series itself, direct references to magic are censored (despite this, magic wands are left uncensored), with them being written so that everything that happens is Timmy's fantasies, which is why the title of the series literally means "Timmy's Dreams".
    • Due to this, the term "fairly oddparents" in the theme song is changed to "imaginary helpers".
  • There is constant censorship in the dub's footage in all 69 dubbed episodes:
    • The bare legs of all women, girls, and adults in the series are censored.[2] Other parts of their exposed bodies are also censored, which female characters may show involuntarily. An example is the editing that is done to Vicky's clothes. The character originally shows her belly, since her green shirt is short, and she leaves it exposed. In the Spacetoon version, however, the shirt is elongated and her navel is covered by making Vicky's torso green, and it seems like she always wears her shirt with a fold, because it's too big for her size. Unlike other Venus Centre dubs, such as Futurama, it does not censor women's bare arms.
    • The word fairy is censored in the footage in any scene in which it appears on screen, being especially censored with the word "imaginary" (written as is, in English). Because of this censorship, the phrases are rewritten on top of the footage with generic fonts. The most recurring case is Fairy World, which on screen is shown in each scene as "Imaginary World".
    • The vast majority of the title cards for each episode are localized in Arabic, but unlike the MBC 3 broadcasts, this localization is extremely simple, editing only the frame with the title, deleting the English text with Adobe Photoshop. Consequently, each episode's crew is not shown in any episode.
    • Occasionally, some title cards are also censored for unclear reasons (such as being misinterpreted), as is the case with the episode "A Wish Too Far!". The title card for this episode is limited to a very simple text written about the footage in the start in episode. It is likely that this censorship is due to themes related to love, since it also occurs in other episodes, such as "Chip Off The Old Chip", where the hearts in Timmy's eyes are censored.
    • The Fake-i-fier, the device created by the Yugopotamians to hide their true form from Earthlings, and which is used by Mark Chang, is completely censored, due to its "resemblance" to the Star of David (✡︎), a symbol of identity with Jewish culture, and that in Arab countries, provokes rejection, being pointed out as Zionist.
    • As has happened in other dubs by this studio, where international flags have been edited or cut, the USA flag is censored. This does not happen for the first time, since it already happened in the dub of some animes such as Dragon Ball. These censorships can be explained by the poor reputation of the USA in Arab countries, and by the tense relationship between Syria and the United States.
    • In "Vicky Loses her Icky", Cake 'n' Bacon has been renamed to Cake 'n' Meat
    • All of the show's English credits are completely cut, both at the beginning and at the end. In the openings of each episode, only the title screen localized in Arabic is shown, and at the end of each episode, a different credits sequence is shown, superimposing the series intro on the left of the screen, while the dubbing credits are shown to the right, on a black background.
