Censorship and changes[]

  • Momo Yaoyorozu, Mina Ashido, Midnight, Bubble Girl and several other female characters' costumes were edited in order to reveal less skin.
  • Eri's name was changed to "Rei", likely because "Eri" is Arabic slang for "my ass" in some dialects.
    • Joi Irinaka is exclusively referred to by his first name due to the same reason.
  • Any traits of Mineta's perverted personality were removed.
  • Like several other Arabic dubs by Venus Centre, such as One Piece, a lot of scenes were censored either by using freeze frames or recycling clips.
  • Present Mic is exclusively referred to by his real last name, Yamada, and his hero name was changed to "Yamada the Announcer".
  • Hiroshi Tameda is exclusively referred to by his proper name instead of being called the "Look, Boy!" kid.
  • Shota Aizawa was renamed to Shota Izawa, and he is exclusively referred to by his proper name instead of his hero name, even though his hero name (Power Restrictor) was said only in two episodes of season 1. It later got changed to "Ereza" in season 4 for some reason.
  • Ms. Joke's relationship with Aizawa was changed to being Aizawa's former finacée.
  • Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugo, Ochako Uraraka and Tenya Iida are often referred to by their first names and Shoto Todoroki is barely referred to by his first name to the point where even Endeavor and Dabi call him by their own last name, "Todoroki".
  • U.A. was renamed to "School of Brave People".
  • Several U.A. students' hero names are rarely said, for example, Izuku Midoriya is barely referred to as "Deku".
  • One For All and All For One are referred to by the literal Arabic translations of their names.
  • All For One (the character) is often referred to as "Al-Zaeem" (lit. the Boss) or "Zaeem al-Ashrar" (lit. Boss of the Villains) instead of his Quirk name before season 4 episode 3.
  • Several attack names are literally translated into Arabic, and mentions of US states in All Might and Deku's attacks were replaced by what the attacks literally do, for example, United States of Smash was changed to "لكمة الإتحاد القاضية" (lit. Supreme Punch of Unity).
  • Blood is sometimes recolored into black, notably in TV airings of seasons 1 and 2.
  • The Christmas segments in episode 101 (season 5 episode 13) were cut, resulting in six minutes of the episode being removed.
  • Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu was renamed to "Tetsu Tetsu".
  • Ectoplasm was renamed to "Ectoplasium". This name change most likely comes from the fact that "ectoplasm" is hard to pronounce in Arabic.
  • Power Loader was renamed to "Bawra Lodar" most likely due to translation issues.
  • Mt. Lady was renamed to "M.T." (pronounced em-tee), which comes from the "Mt." (pronounced "mount") part of her name.
  • Recovery Girl isn't referred to by her hero name or real name, and is instead referred to as "Rika".
  • Mr. Brave, a character with very little screentime, was renamed to "La Brave". This is most likely due to the translators confusing his name with La Brava's.
  • Destro was retconned as Re-Destro's father, and the Mother of Quirks was retconned to be a random mother whose baby son had a dangerous Quirk that the military placed him in foster care and prevented his mother from seeing him. She told them to bring her son back but they refused. She later went to Re-Destro and told him to rid the countries of their leaders, but she never came to him the next day because those who opposed Re-Destro's politics killed her.
    • Also, in the same retcon, when people wanted equality between themselves and heroes and a right to freely use abilities (which are what Quirks are referred to as in the Arabic dub), the government made a decision to rename "abilities" to "quirks". They thought that this decision would calm them down. But, this decision made people angry, and that's not what they just wanted. They wanted to use their abilities freely. Re-Destro's father (Destro) understood this, and his grandmother planned a bright future for everyone, an independent future where everyone is equal to the law.
  • All scenes featuring Skeptic's gorilla-shaped puppets were removed and replaced with recycled clips.
  • Tenko Shimura intentionally killing his father was retconned so that he accidentally killed his father.
    • The name "Tenko Shimura" was never mentioned in season 5 episode 23 for some reason, although it was mentioned in a flashback in season 3 and season 5 episode 24.
  • The Shie Hassaikai were initially renamed to a rough translation of their name, "The Eight Killers" in season 4 episode 2. Starting from season 4 episode 3, they were renamed back to simply "Hassaikai".
  • Izuku Midoriya instantly recognizes Daigoro Banjo as the 5th user of One For All instead of "one of the past users" when first seeing him.
  • Overhaul was renamed to "Over Haul".
  • Tsukauchi and Kurogiri were initially renamed to "Tsuka Uchi" and "Kuro Giri" respectively, but they was renamed back to "Tsukauchi" and "Kurogiri" in season 5.
  • Gigantomachia was initially mistranslated as "Giganatomatashia" in season 4 and "Gigantomatshia" in season 5. Starting from episode 20 of season 5, he is properly called "Gigantomachia".
  • Nomus were retconned to be creatures infused with human DNA which gives them human traits.
  • Like many other Venus Centre dubs, every "u" in character names was replaced by an "o", for example, Izuku Midoriya was renamed to "Izoko Medoria" and Katsuki Bakugo was renamed to "Katsoki Bakogo".
  • Manga Fukidashi now speaks in a bitcrushed voice.

Notes[]

Katshuna

The meme that started the "Katshuna" hoax.

  • Contrary to popular belief outside of MENA, Bakugo wasn't changed to a female character called "Katshuna" in seasons 1-3 of this dub. This misconception came from a meme about Bakugo's voice actors.
  • This dub has gained a cult following on r/BokuNoMetaAcademia, mostly because of Mineta's non-perverted personality.
  • Coincidentally, Tsuyu Asui shares her Arabic VA with Pony Tsunotori like in the original Japanese version.

Goofs and errors[]

  • In season 2 episode 23 of this dub, Koji Koda erroneously refers to Yamada the Announcer by his hero name from the original version, "Present Mic". This is most likely due to the onscreen subtitles being written before the localization names were decided.
  • In the season 5 trailer, the School of Brave People was referred to by its original name, "U.A." in onscreen subtitles. This is due to the trailer being a direct translation of the original Japanese season 5 trailer.
  • At the start of the All Might vs All For One fight, All Might erroneously refers to him as "One For All". This is most likely due to the voice director (Mohja Alsheak) initally forcing the VAs to say "Zaeem al-Ashrar" instead of "All For One".
  • In season 2 episode 20, the power-stockpiling Quirk that was given to Yoichi is erroneously referred to as "a quirk that collects quirks." This is due to quirks being referred to as "powers", "energies" or "abilities" in this dub.
  • As noted above, this dub treats "Todoroki" as Shoto Todoroki's first name. This results in Endeavor and Dabi referring to Shoto by their own last name.

Original opening/ending[]

  • This dub has an original theme song that was first used in TV airings, but not in Spacetoon Go releases of seasons 1-3. It was later used in the Spacetoon Go release of season 4 onwards. It's an original composition composed and sang by Rasha Rizk which coincidentally bears similarities to the Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes OST, especially the Tails stage themes in SA2 like Eternal Engine, and also has a melody similar to Sandopolis Zone from Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
