Censorship[]

This dub made several changes which is:

  • The series suffered from several censorships, removing references to black comedy, dirty jokes, and other jokes, present in the original series. Some chapters were even directly banned.
  • The drinking and drunkenness problem that detective Kogoro Mori suffers from, which is always covered up in the Arabic dub by him being sick, sleepy, or having a headache; though he is seen going to the bar.
  • Several scenes were deleted for containing a lot of blood or showing scenes of a gruesome murder or short skirts for girls (the uniform in Japanese schools, especially at Ran's school).
  • In the Japanese version, the series is not divided into parts; though please note that parts are what Spacetoon considers seasons despite parts usually not following the actual season’s order (ex. part 5 starting in the later half of season 4).
  • Some of the killer's confessions were changed, as the killer in the Japanese version sometimes does not show remorse for killing the victim (this policy changed starting from the seventh part).
  • Not all references to magic, sorcery, and Japanese deity myths were dubbed.
  • In the Japanese version, there are special episodes that are one or two and a half hours long, while in the Arabic version, they are divided into several episodes, each lasting approximately 25 minutes.
  • Sharon Vineyard's words were changed, such as saying that she is Chris Vineyard's trainer, and nothing was mentioned about Kid's father.
  • In the Arabic version, Ran was called Shinichi's fiancée instead of saying that she is his best friend as in the Japanese version, and mention of their feelings was omitted in most episodes of the Arabic version except for the first part.
  • The legs of all women, girls and adults, in the series are censored. Other parts of the body are also censored.

Trivia[]

  • Before the Spacetoon channel began broadcasting in 2002, this dub was shown in the Spacetoon block of the state channel Bahrain TV, considered the beta version of the channel we know today.
  • A stage-play crossover with Pokémon was created by Spacetoon, likely to expand both franchises, both being the most popular on the channel. The voice actors talked over their respective character's stage actors. This play is about Team Rocket impersonating Ash to poison nature and water, and Conan has to investigate this.
  • The openings and endings are different from what normally used. The first opening is "المحقق كونان", the other two openings are a cover of this and an entirely new song.
  • The musical openings and endings are not integrated into the episodes (i.e. the opening song is shown first, then the episode). In the Japanese version, the opening and ending credits are constantly changed, while the Arabic version uses the same song with minor changes, only fully changing once.
  • The series’ first opening has another version exclusive to DVDs that slightly changes the lyrics of the original, this time going for lyrics that constantly remind you that he’s the winner (i.e. changing “The Detective Conan, he seems confident” to “The Detective Conan, always the winner”).
