This article is about Al-Majd dub, by Basma Channel. For the original 1984 Arabic dub, see here.

هايدي is one of two Arabic dubs of アルプスの少女ハイジ. It has previously aired on Basma; it is available on HADIF.TV. This is an islamic dub. Compared to the renowned original dub from 1984, this has been edited to not include music, and with a partially changed plot, making this version contain fewer episodes, and these in turn have a decreased duration. It premiered on Basma on February 21, 2021, and aired until November 2022.

Notes[]

  • This dub contains a partially changed story, censoring any reference to the Christian religion, no matter how minimal. A Muslim focus is given to the show, when, ironically, its Japanese developers avoided any religious references in their original work.
  • The Al-Majd dub openings is a kind of cover of the original Arabic opening, taking intact the Arabic lyrics of the classic opening. There are two versions: the opening of Basma, which was also used in promos, which is sung by a woman, in the company of some children, as well as a choir, also of children; and the opening of HADIF.TV, which has background vocals. The interpreter of this version tries to imitate the singing of Sameera Nimri very noticeably, the interpreter of the original dub opening.
    • An atypical detail of this opening is that it does not include any nasheed (islamic chant), and that it did not modify the lyrics, nor did it add references to Allah or Islam to it, as it has been seen with other Islamic dubs.
    • The original Arabic dub is widely recognized for its original traditional Arabic music, in addition to the reinterpretation with typical instruments of the original Japanese music, composed by Takeo Watanabe, with arrangements by Yushi Matsuyama. In this version all the music is eliminated, and the only thing heard in the background of the episodes is most of the time birds singing.
  • Due to all the changes made, the total chapters are reduced from 52 to 43, and the time of the episodes is significantly reduced, from 25 to 15 minutes. This also happens in Persian dub, although not as noticeable.
  • The dub received mostly negative reviews from adult viewers who were fans of the classic dub, as they were not happy with the new cast.[4] Despite this, the dub still had some viewers.
    • In some countries, such as Saudi Arabia or the UAE, classic dub could also be seen on national state television channels at the same time, which may also have partially diminished the reception of the Basma Channel dub.
  • The show stopped airing on Basma without notice in November 2022. Some of the dub viewers have asked for explanations, and have requested that the dub return, which has not yet happened. Some Twitter users also complained that at the time the broadcast stopped, the series had not ended, although, as it was on the air for more than a year, there is a possibility that the series was broadcast incomplete only in that last broadcast.[5][6] The dub is complete on the Al-Majd HADIF.TV streaming service, but it is paid, which has decreased its viewers.
