Not to be confused with the GEM Junior dub or the Persian Toon dub.

پونی کوچولو is one of several Persian dubs of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. Produced by Qualima, this dub was released primarily through multiple DVD sets that were initially produced and distributed by the Parsian Art Institute[1] in 2015[2]. Select episodes were then re-released onto separate DVD sets that were distributed by PDH Corporation, and exported by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance[3].

This dub is often referred to as the "Kimiya dub" for convenience sake, however it is not currently clear what exactly Kimiya is. UPTV features a watermark of Kimiya, which is written in Latin, on the top right corner in their copies of the episodes, indicating that it may be a streaming service that merely hosts the dub.

Like the vast majority of Persian dubs, this dub was not legally produced, as it had no authorization from Hasbro.

Release[]

This dub is the most widely distributed Persian dub of the show, as multiple streaming services host the dub behind a paywall, including FilmNet, Appido, and Namava. On Namava, the episodes are released through the same volumes as the DVDs, in one hour compilations, while on FilmNet, each episode is separated, labeling them as "parts" of the same volumes. The dub is referred to as پونی کوچولوی من on Namava.

UPTV hosts only three episodes: "Dragonshy", "Look Before You Sleep", and "Bridle Gossip". This grouping of episodes comes from a set of DVDs by PDH, with the subtitle of "دروازه ستارگان". Due to this, the dub is given the title of پونی کوچولو دروازه ستارگان on the service. They have used watermarked copies of the dub without permission from Parsian Art Institute or PDH, which as previously mentioned, are taken from an unidentified source that refers to themselves as "Kimiya".

These services only host episodes from the first season, and no other content from any other volumes have been hosted anywhere else. Because of this, it remains uncertain if anything other than the first season truly was dubbed, since there are other volumes that have been documented to exist.

Notes[]

  • Unlike the other two Persian dubs of the show, this one dubs all of the songs.
  • The dub uses custom-made instrumentals for the dubbed songs, including the opening theme.
    • While all of the other songs are closely adapted to the original, the song used in the closing credits was replaced with another melody entirely, one devoid from the opening theme. The Studio B Productions and Hasbro Studios logo jingles remain intact.
    • Unlike the other two dubs, the background music for non-song related scenes are the same as the original (with an attempt to isolate the original vocals).
  • The singer of the theme song, Shohreh Roohi, later voiced as Pinkie Pie in the Soren Studio dub of the 2017 movie.
  • Qualima would go on to dub the 2017 movie for Namava years later. Despite this, the cast and crew of both the show and the film are nearly entirely different from each other. The sole exception is that Sanam Nekoeghbal and Mina Ghiyaspour are in both dubs.
  • Many scenes in the dub have reportedly been censored to comply with Islamic values.(specify?)
  • Almost all of the DVD sets include four episodes each, with the exception of volume five which features six of them, due to the uneven episode amount. Because of this, the episode "The Best Night Ever" was released out of order as the 22nd episode.
  • Some of the visuals as presented on the DVD covers use fanart, and certain visuals are taken from random sources (such as IDW comic covers) which do not match the contents of either the show, or the specific set of episodes the DVD features, as expected from DVDs distributed by the Parsian Art Institute.
    • Some of the DVDs notably use a prototype of the Equestria Girls logo, where instead of saying "Equestria Girls", it says "Friendship Is Magic", in English as well.
