ஷின் சான் is one of two Tamil dubs of クレヨンしんちゃん. It is airing on Hungama TV.
Broadcast[]
After many requests from fans for Crayon Shin-chan to return in India after being questioned by the Indian Ministry of Broadcasting in 2008, a heavily censored version of the Hindi dub with more edited family-friendly jokes restarted airing on Hungama TV starting on March 27, 2009, alongside the debut of Tamil and Telugu dubs. Nude scenes and profanity were edited out. All jokes with mature themes were translated into childish ones, and the word "alcohol" was changed to "juice". Cuts included scenes with instances of Nene's mother beating a stuffed rabbit, Shin-chan imitating Action Mask, as well as the "Mr. Elephant" dance or "Butt Alien Monster" and "Buri Buri" dance. Due to budget cuts, the ending song was not dubbed, instead using a repeat of the theme song due to the ending being shortened from 80 seconds to 60 seconds.
The original Tamil dub covered the first two seasons, equating to 104 episodes. Past this point, some episodes were also partially redubbed when censored. The Tamil dub of the anime series stopped in 2015, even with mature content censored. The first two seasons of the series were redubbed in 2016 for airings on Hungama TV and released on Amazon Prime Video, most likely because further dialogue editing would result in episodes being too short, while the censored version of the first dub is no longer broadcast. However, even episodes that were not redubbed later received additional censorship. Episodes are still aired in the redub version in which there is no mature content, and episodes which have high amounts of mature content are not aired.
Since September 23, 2021, the 16th season of the dub has been broadcast.
Release[]
In 2016, the first 8 seasons of the dub were released on Amazon Prime Video, and are no longer available for streaming. On February 21, 2019, seasons 12 through 15 of the dub began release on Disney+ Hotstar, but they were eventually removed in January 2022 for unknown reasons. The show returned to the platform in March. Season 12 is currently unavailable for streaming, and season 16 was added on May 20, 2024.
