명탐정 코난 is one of two Korean dubs of 名探偵コナン. It premiered on January 10, 2000, on KBS 2TV. Knives were blurred out or cut due to government warnings, and several episodes were skipped either because of Japanese tradition relating to the cases or violence. Because of protests from parents and low ratings, the dub was cancelled in November of the same year.

However in 2004, Tooniverse bought these episodes, and made an entirely new dub with a different cast continuing where they left off. The dub is still going to this day (although various episodes are still censored; many having not ever had been dubbed.

On November 30, 2024, the first season aired as a new dub completely different from the Animax dub on Tooniverse.

Music[]

The Korean opening order is vastly different than the original Japanese version; only select openings and endings are dubbed and are used for a different range of episodes (for example, the thirteenth opening in the original is the third in this dub, and it is used for episodes 150 to 215 rather than 333 to 355); the opening themes were always reused for the ending credits until recently. Some ending themes are also used as the opening.

In some songs, the original Japanese singer sings the Korean version. The first to do this was Tomorrow is the last Time by Mai Kuraki / 倉木麻衣, but it became a regular practice after Everything OK!! by Cellchrome (though it occured again with Hitomi no Melody by BOYFRIEND due to it being a Korean boy band). A notable case is Rainy。, who sings the song Veronica by Kuraki. The first collaboration between both the original singers and a Korean singer was SPARKLE by Maki Ohguro / 大黒摩季, which the dub was a collaboration with her and Jo Goon / 조곤 of the band 9001.

Notes[]

  • The Korean season order is different from the Japanese, possibly because so many episodes were skipped.
  • Episodes 927 and 928 (The Scarlet School Trip arc) were released in cinemas in South Korea as one film on January 27, 2021.
