Release[]

The film became a huge box office hit in South Korea, breaking the record of 520,000 viewers set by Pokémon, becoming the highest-grossing Japanese animation in the country at the time.

Ultimately, it attracted 900,000 spectators in Seoul and earned $11.38 million, which is a noteworthy achievement in the Korean theater district, where previously released Japanese films and animations failed one after another. Of course, there is also an advantageous background in securing many theaters since the film was distributed by Walt Disney Pictures.

It was remastered and re-released on February 5, 2015, well over 10 years later. This version mobilized 160,000 viewers and was very successful as well. Chihiro, Haku, Lin, Akio and Yūgo got their dialogues re-dubbed for the remastered version, while the rest of the Korean cast was kept the same.

Notes[]

  • This dub was screened with subtitles on both releases, however these subtitles are a translation of the English dub's script instead of the original Japanese version's script, causing several people to complain about it.
