Andreas von der Meden

Andreas von der Meden was a German actor, voice actor, musician, and dubbing director & translator.

Biography[]

Andreas von der Meden made his debut as a child actor at the Thalia Theater (Thalia Theatre) in Hamburg in 1948. After training as an actor with Hildburg Frese in Hamburg, he worked at the Lucerne Theatre and the Schauspielhaus Zürich (Zürich playhouse). He has also appeared in other film and television productions.

Von der Meden first appeared in a dubbing studio in 1952 at the age of nine. In the decades that followed, he took on numerous leading, supporting and guest roles in films and television series, in puppet and cartoon productions, and radio play productions. He is best known to several generations as the original German voice of Kermit the Frog, whom he voiced from 1973 to 2002. Initially only on Sesamstraße, the German version of Sesame Street, inheriting the role full time on Muppets productions, after the death of the previous voice actor from The Muppet Show, Horst Gentzen. Additionally, he dubbed David Hasslehoff in multiple productions.

Von der Meden additionally played guitar and banjo for multiple German jazz and Dixieland bands throughout the years.

Von der Meden was married to Brigitte Böttrich and lived in Hamburg. His brother is the actor and voice actor Tonio von der Meden.

Andreas Von der Meden passed away on April 26th, 2017 at the age of 74.
