Astro Studios

Astro Studios is a Malaysian multi-disciplinary media production services company, which serves multiple facets of video production, post-production, and visual design. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Astro Malaysia Holdings Berhad.

History[]

Initially, Astro Productions Sdn Bhd (APSB) was the internal production arm of the Astro network. In 2022, Astro began plans to restructure APSB into an international-standard production services business servicing the domestic and international media industry. In the same year, APSB launched its XR virtual studios for live broadcast productions, expanded its audio post-production studios to incorporate certified Dolby Atmos for broadcast/streaming, expanded its graphics unit to encompass virtual set design using the Unreal Engine, experiential stage design and advanced CG animation. In September 2023, Astro acquired Basecamp Films to bolster its visual post-production capabilities.

With this acquisition and further restructuring, APSB operations was essentially transformed into Astro Studios Sdn Bhd. A new integrated service suite, branded as “Astro Studios”, was launched in April 2024. Since launch, Astro Studios has expanded its clientele and projects including into niche markets and other industries. Such efforts include:

  • Full audio and visual post-production for scripted feature films and series, including 4K/HDR, delivered in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, for cinema and streaming delivery.
  • Near set support services for international production shoots.
  • Scanning and restoration of 35mm film into digital for streaming
  • Key visual design and animation for regional multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) events.
  • Game audio for in-game play for game development studios.
  • Broadcast productions for international media outlets and projects, including entertainment, news and sports programmes.
  • Production services for feature films, series, TV commercials and documentaries.
