Barbapapa is the Dutch dub of the show of the same name. The dub premiered on the NPO 1 station which was broadcasted by NOS on October 13, 1974, and concluded airing its first season on September 28, 1975. The second season ran from April 30 to June 14, 1977. Additional airings occured on the channel from September 5 to November 8, 1990.
This dub has aired on many other Hollandic television channels since then: on NPO 2, the series ran and broadcasted by VARA from October 2, 1978 to August 27, 1980. On NPO 1, it originally ran and broadcasted by TROS from April 1 to August 19, 1992; regular repeats of the series began airing on the channel on February 25, 2004. On Kindernet, the series premiered on July 1, 1991 and ended its reruns on December 20, 1996.[1] In 2017, the dub was made available for streaming on Netflix.

Wieteke van Dort was heard in the first season of Barbapapa in 1974. The actress did not provide a voice, but rather sang the songs. All characters were then still voiced by Leen Jongewaard, who also sang the theme song and voiced the narrator.
"They were beautiful songs," Van Dort said in an interview. "It was great fun to work on such a cheerful series. I had worked with Joop Stokkermans before," (the composer who also wrote the theme songs by Paulus de Boskabouter) "and it was great fun to work together."
For the second season of the series, Edwin Rutten was asked to provide the voice of the title character, among other things. Aart Staartjes and Marijke Merckens also voiced several creatures.
Rutten also enjoyed the series' speaking process. "Nowadays, if you record films, you come into the studio and you only do your pieces. At the time of Barbapapa, Aart, Marijke and I enjoyed recording things one after the other."
"You also did two, three typing, so then you suddenly had to go from 'Huub huub, barbatruc' to another voice. The text had to have the right intonation and the text had to be lipsynced. To be honest, you went a bit crazy," laughed Rutten. "After that, we always treated ourselves to a copious Indian meal."[4]

- The transformation phrase that the Barbapapas say when they shapeshift is translated as "Huub huub, Barbatruc!".
- With the intentional exception of Barbalala, all of the Barbababies' names were adapted in Dutch to have alliterative names, as after "Barba-" their names all start with "B".
