Censorship[]
It was initially reported that the film was unlikely to release in China due to the subtle depiction of a queer romance between Ayo and Aneka, in particular a scene where the latter places a kiss on the former's forehead near the end of the film.[5] Portrayals of homosexuality in the media are banned in China, where same-sex relationships are not officially recognized. However, it was announced on January 17, 2023 that the film will release in China on February 7, 2023.[6]
In Kuwait, the aforementioned kiss, as well as a scene where Namor's mother gives birth to him, and the line "A god to his people" in reference to Namor, had to be cut for the film's release there.[7]
