Bob the Builder is the American English dub of the show of the same name. It premiered on January 13, 2001 on Nickelodeon as part of the Nick Jr. block, airing on the channel until September 18, 2003. Then, it moved to PBS under the PBS Kids strand on January 1, 2005, airing until November 5, 2011. Also, some episodes even were released on US home media before they were shown on television.

This dub was recorded in London, England, with a cast made up of American and Canadian actors based in the UK and British actors doing American accents.

Trivia[]

  • In this dub, Muck is female.
  • The U.S. dub never aired on BBC Kids and Qubo (because they already aired the original U.K. version instead).
  • The characters Benny, Katie, Meg, Splasher, Mr. Mockney, and Roland Rowbottom, all have their voices mostly retained from the original British version.
    • Some characters are eventually voiced by their original British voices in later seasons. This includes Spud and Mr. Bentley in seasons 10-18.
  • Jurgen Wolf was the main US Script Editor for Seasons 1-6. From Season 7-18, Lorelei King became the US Script Editor. Additionally, Greg Proops (during his time on the show) gave notes on the US script to make it feel more authentic.
  • In the episode An Inspector Calls, Bob and Dizzy's voices were re-dubbed with their later voice actors Marc Silk and Emma Tate at the time (as of this episode) in flashbacks of episodes with former Greg Proops and Maria Darling voicing them.
  • The US dub of Project: Build It currently has 8 lost episodes while the original UK dub is full on some streaming services and video sharing sites such as Paramount+.
    • Out of all the episodes that were dubbed in the US, Travis and the Tropical Fruits is infamously the only one that was banned in the United States and hasn't been aired on PBS Kids, and for some reason, it wasn't released on DVD nor digital release, due to the fact that the episode's concept of horse manure (horse poop) was involved in the plot. The US dub of this episode was exclusively aired in Canada on Treehouse TV under the series' half-hour block Valley Discoveries, along with its sister episode Scoop the Teacher, and aired up until September 9, 2011. As of now, the episode hasn't been re-released on home media, or shared online in video sharing sites, unlike its sister episode Scoop the Teacher, whose US dub was later re-released in 2014 on the digital release Let's Build!.
  • In many episodes, several lines and terms were changed so American and Canadian viewers could understand.
    • In the episode Pilchard in a Pickle, the line found a penny and lost a pound was changed to found a dime and lost a dollar, since the UK and the US have different currencies.
    • In the episode Bob's Boots, the term cheese and chutney was changed to peanut butter and jelly, probably because cheese and chutney would be unfamiliar to American viewers. Oddly, cheese is still visible in the North American version despite the dialogue being changed. This was presumably because it was believed that US viewers would think it was peanut butter and jelly.
  • On Universal Kids airings in mid-2019, the Project: Build It episodes use the original UK version of the theme song along with the UK masters, while the Ready, Steady, Build! ones use the local US vocals and masters (both use the US dub for the episodes regardless).
  • Due to having some of the same voices from the UK version, some characters' lines and accents like Spud (2005-2011), Mr. Bernard Bentley (2005-2011), and Benny's were left unchanged in the US dub, however, they sometimes use different, American English terms.
  • The episodes "Naughty Spud", "Spud the Super Wrench", "Tea Set Travis", "Benny's Jungle Trouble", "Mr. Bentley's Big Parade", "Muck's Mootastic Dairy", "Roley the Green Cat", "Zoomer's Snowy Adventure" and "An Inspector Calls" were all found in this dub but not put on home media.
  • Marc Silk redubbed Bob's voice in two Series 11 episodes focusing on Scrambler - "Scrambler in the Doghouse" and "Scrambler and the Colourful Cave" - for the Scrambler to the Rescue DVD, with the latter one also released on the Hit Favorites release Colors Are Fun. Emma Tate and Lorelei King also redubbed the voices of Dizzy and Roley respectively in the latter episode.
