The film follows the story of a talented yet insecure teenage girl named Mitchie Torres (played by Demi Lovato), who dreams of becoming a singer. Mitchie gets the chance to attend a prestigious music camp called Camp Rock, known for its exceptional music program.
At Camp Rock, Mitchie befriends other aspiring musicians and forms a bond with Shane Gray (played by Joe Jonas), a famous pop star who is also a counselor at the camp. However, Shane is initially unaware of Mitchie's true identity.
Throughout the summer, Mitchie faces challenges and must learn to overcome her insecurities while navigating friendships, rivalries, and the pressures of performing. As the Final Jam, the camp's ultimate music competition, approaches, Mitchie strives to find her voice and gain the confidence to share her talent on stage.
The film premiered on Disney Channel on June 20, 2008. Camp Rock was the second DCOM to air on ABC's The Wonderful World of Disney after its premiere on Disney Channel and was placed on the iTunes Store for digital purchase shortly after its premiere.
