Carlos Petrel was a Spanish-born Mexican voice actor and bass-baritone singer.

Biography[]

Carlos Petrel was born on March 30, 1924, in the Spanish province of A Coruña. He emigrated to France because of the Spanish Civil War, where he spent his youth and began his career as a singer. His parents fled to Mexico, where he later joined them and was recommended to the famous composer Augustín Lara, for whom Petrel interpreted several of his songs in French. He then toured the cabarets and nightclubs of Mexico City for several years.

He later went into radio, became one of the pioneers of Mexican television and completed several tours as an actor and singer.

During his time in LA, he voiced Darth Vader in the first dub of Star Wars, among others.

Petrel died on September 17, 2000, from liver cirrhosis after contracting hepatitis.
