Chaves (also known as Episódios perdidos do Chaves) is one of several Brazilian Portuguese dubs of El Chavo del Ocho. This dub was made for a series of lost classic dub episodes, which disappeared during the first 2 decades of broadcasting on SBT. The dub was made between 2012, and was cancelled in 2014. It is one of three redubs made of the classic version by the Maga dubbing team.
Dubbing history[]
In early 2014, SBT announced the broadcast of new episodes of Chaves, from 1973 and 1979, which had never been dubbed or broadcast by the channel. The episodes began airing on January 6, 2014, having been produced in 2012. The dubbing did not please fans, as few of the original voice actors were still alive, although what most caused the lack of success of this dubbing was the non-hiring of Carlos Seidl (Don Ramón/Seu Madruga), and Nelson Machado (Quico), actors still alive and active at the time, who did not reach an economic agreement with the new studio, as they claimed their seniority rights, having dubbed both characters and not receiving royalties for 28 years of broadcasting the program on SBT, the salary offered being very low. Both actors, and others who have passed away, such as Marcelo Gastaldi (El Chavo/Chaves) and Mário Vilela (Señor Barriga/Seu Barriga), were also replaced, and very few of the original cast would return.

Critisism[]
This dub was severely criticized by Brazilian fans, because, in addition to the lost episodes of the classic dub, episodes that were always broadcast with their original dub on SBT, and other channels such as TLN or Cartoon Network, were dubbed. The redubbed episodes were progressively replacing the original dubs in 2014, which caused severe criticism. Because of this, the dub was cancelled the same year of its premiere, although on occasions, they have been broadcast sporadically, until 2020, together classic dub episodes.
