Christian Brückner is a German actor and voice actor.

Biography[]

Christian Brückner was born in Waldenburg, Silesia as the son of engineer Robert Brückner and his wife Elisabeth. He grew up in Cologne, where his father worked as a sound engineer at Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR). After graduating from the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Cologne in 1963, Brückner initially began studying theology in order to avoid compulsory military service. He eventually broke off his studies and went to Berlin to study German language and literature, theater studies and journalism at the Free University, which he left without a degree. Parallel to his studies, he took part in acting courses and received voice lessons. His first job was on the program Aus der Zone für die Zone at RIAS (radio in the American sector). This was followed by engagements on theater stages in Berlin, Klagenfurt, Freiburg im Breisgau and New York City, including in the voice play Under Milk Wood by Dylan Thomas, staged by Brückner, as Heinrich Heine in Der Doppelgänger and in the prison production And They Put Handcuffs on the Flowers by the Spanish-French playwright Fernando Arrabal. In 2007, Brückner appeared as Sigmund Freud in The Talking Cure by Christopher Hampton at the Ernst Deutsch Theater in Hamburg.

In 2011, Christian Brückner volunteered as a reciter for the Deutsche Winterreise (German Winter Journey) project by author Stefan Weiller. Since 2009, this project has been drawing attention to the situation of homeless people in particular at charity events in cooperation with institutions such as the Diakonisches Werk (Diaconal work).

Christian and Waltraut Brückner, née Kleine, married in 1966 and had two sons. From 1984 to 1986, the family lived in Larchmont near New York, after which they moved back to Berlin. In spring 2013, Brückner spent time at the Villa Massimo in Rome as part of an internship programme.
