Doctor Sleep is a 2019 American supernatural horror film written, directed, and edited by Mike Flanagan. It is based on Stephen King's 2013 novel of the same name and serves as a sequel to Stanley Kubrick's 1980 film The Shining. The film stars Ewan McGregor as Dan Torrance, a man with psychic power called "shining", and a drinking problem who is dealing with childhood trauma induced by the horrors at the Overlook Hotel. He teams up with Abra Stone, a teenager, who is psychic as well, and Billy Freeman to take down the True Knot, an old cult of psychic vampires led by Rose the Hat. They feed on "steam", a psychic essence released by torturing and killing people with the shining.

Warner Bros. Pictures began working on a film adaptation shortly after Doctor Sleep was published in 2013. Akiva Goldsman, a writer-producer, developed the script, but the studio did not secure funding for the picture until the box office success of its 2017 horror thriller It, which was also based on a novel by King. Flanagan was engaged to rewrite Goldsman's screenplay and helm the Doctor Sleep movie. Flanagan stated that he intended to bridge the discrepancies between The Shining book and the movie. Filming began in September 2018 in Georgia, including Atlanta and the surrounding areas, and ended in December.

Doctor Sleep had its international premiere on October 21, 2019, at the Regency Village Theater in Los Angeles. It was theatrically released worldwide on October 31, 2019, and in the United States on November 8. Critics gave the picture largely excellent reviews, praising Flanagan's direction and writing as well as the cast's performances (particularly McGregor, Ferguson, and Curran), but criticized its length. It grossed $72.3 million worldwide, although its success was deemed disappointing when compared to the two King adaptations released in 2019: It Chapter Two and Pet Sematary.
