Doraemon is one of several English dubs of ドラえもん (2005). It has previously aired on Disney Channel in India and it is currently airing on Disney Channel HD in India.

Broadcast history[]

This dub was recorded between 2018 to 2020, and was licensed by Spacetoon India/Animation International and distributed by Disney. It had first aired on Disney Channel in early 2020 with the debut of season 15, but it would stop airing with the conclusion of season 16 due to the channel's frequent practice of only broadcasting shows in English during premieres. Online social media fan groups were made aware of this dub, teasing the episode Welcome to the Haunted Inn on February 4, 2020 before uploading it the next day.

It would later re-air on Disney Channel HD beginning on August 14, 2023, broadcasting on weekdays at 4:00 PM. The English dub was exclusively aired in this time slot, with all other broadcasts only airing in Hindi on the English track, for approximately a year. The dub was later spread to all Doraemon broadcasts on the channel's schedule some time between July and August 2024. This, however, resulted in all other 2005 episodes from seasons 12-14 and 17-20 to cease airing on the channel entirely. Despite the use of English-language title cards in seasons 15-17, which were all released around the same time in 2020, season 17 is currently thought to not have been dubbed in English due to this. As of late November 2024, the English dub has returned to a single slot daily.

  • The dub has a very limited cast, with most male background characters using the same actor and tone of voice. Suneo and Mrs. Goda share the same performance. Most child characters are voiced by female actresses.
  • Some voice lines seem to be slowed down digitally.
  • Songs such as Gian's the Greatest and Suneo's Rich Kid Mambo are also dubbed in their respective episodes, although the song featured in the episode Gravity Paint is not.
  • The dub is translated faithfully, although some dialogue, such as references to beef products, is muted to meet Indian broadcasting standards.
    • If a character says something in English or is from an English-speaking country, normally foreign in any other language, it remains English in this dub.
    • Although the Japanese names are used for each character, each gadget has a name localized in English from the 2013 translation of the manga, enforced by Fujiko-Pro.
    • Dorayaki keep their Indian name, "Dora cakes".
    • When honorifics are used, such as "Nobita-kun", they are substituted to match the lip flaps, usually with "Nobita, hey" in this case.
    • Most lines are translated literally, often creating awkward dialogue like "It can't be helped".
  • All episode titles are in English on Disney+ Hotstar. The Spanish service Movistar Plus uses these titles as well, so they are likely sourced from TV Asahi.
    • For unknown reasons, this dub has not been released for streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
