Ferris Bueller's Day Off is a 1986 American teen comedy film. Written, co-produced, and directed by John Hughes, it stars Matthew Broderick, Mia Sara, and Alan Ruck, while Jennifer Grey, Jeffrey Jones, Cindy Pickett, Edie McClurg and Lyman Ward play supporting parts. The film recounts the tale of Ferris, a charming high school slouch who frequently breaks the fourth wall to share his methods and innermost thoughts with the audience, while spending a day in Chicago with his best friend Cameron and his love Sloane.

The movie, which was released by Paramount Pictures on June 11, 1986, made $70 million over a $5 million budget, making it the tenth highest-grossing film production in the US that year. Both critics and viewers gave the movie largely favorable reviews, complimenting Broderick's performance as well as the humor and tone of the film.

The Library of Congress chose the film for preservation in the United States National Film Registry in 2014, citing its "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" status. Following the film, an unsuccesful television series was broadcast on NBC, starring Charlie Schlatter as Ferris. A spinoff movie is in developement for Paramount+.
