Gumball is the Turkish dub of The Amazing World of Gumball. It has previously aired on TNT and it is currently airing on Cartoon Network; it is also available online on HBO Max and Netflix.

Censorship

Gumball was heavily censored when aired on Cartoon Network's Turkish feed. In addition to using Turner EMEA's own edits, the broadcast on the channel also removed other scenes. This is in addition to other broadcasting regulations in Turkey.

The show was formerly given a G rating, rather than the typical 7+ rating used by most programs on the channel. But later in 2016, the show was given a 7+ rating.

Gumball uses Turner EMEA's edits from season 1 to season 3's "The Allergy". The dub then used Turner USA's edits from "The Mothers" to season 5, Turner CEE's edits for most of season 6, and Turner MENA's edits for the last season 6 episodes.

Uploads of clips from seasons 3 and 4, and the episode "The Stories", are uncensored on YouTube.

The Turkish-dubbed version on Cartoon Network Turkey also features these common changes since the premiere:

• Insults such as, "stupid", "dumb", "idiot", "jerk", etc. were cut, muted or replaced.
• Scenes in which characters kiss on the lips were cut.
• Scenes where any of the characters' naked body were cut are exposed were cut.
• All of the scenes in which a character's butt is exposed were cut.

Specific edits

These scenes have been removed and shortened due to them being inappropriate for CN Türkiye to show:

Season 1

• In "The DVD":
  • Hobo's line, "Woo-hoo! I won! I spent your money on a scratch card, and now, I'm a millionaire!" was shortened to, "Woo-hoo! I won! I'm a millionaire!" in reruns.
  • All of the lines with "trouble" words were cut in reruns.
  • Instead of running through Penny's house, Gumball and Darwin run through to another fence with angry dog in reruns. This is just likely to avoid the word "trouble"
  • In "Alligators on a Train", the kissing noises were cut in reruns.
  • Nicole's line, "Come on. Let's go home, you little troublemakers." was shortened to, "Come on. Let's go home." in reruns.
• In "The Responsible":
  • The scene where Nicole squeezes Richard into the car with her foot was cut in reruns.
  • The whole scene where Gumball and Darwin are bringing the food to Anais and eating at home was cut in reruns.
• In "The Third":
  • Gumball's line, "But keep it quick!" when referring to Alan calling his mom was cut. This is just likely to remove the word "cut"
• In "The Debt":
  • Pantsbully giving Mr. Robinson CPR is cut in reruns.
• In "The End":
  • Gumball's line "Kiss me, Penny." during biology class was cut in reruns.
  • The fake wedding scene between Gumball and Penny was cut in reruns. It was skipped to Gumball eating with his family at home.
  • Darwin's line, "Well, Gumball got a perm and tried to get married." was shortened to, "Well, Gumball got a perm." in reruns.
• In "The Dress":
  • Anais' line, "People will do anything for a beautiful girl. Anything!" was cut in reruns.
  • Darwin sticking the picture of Gumball to his face was cut in reruns.
  • During the song "Fine Lady", three parts of the song were cut in reruns:
    • Gumball burping to Darwin's bag.
    • Miss Simian whistling.
    • Darwin squeezing Gumball's sweat to a heart-shaped necklace locket.
  • Gumball's imagination was cut in reruns when Anais tells Gumball if Darwin doesn't get another girl.
• In "The Quest":
  • Gumball's line, "Well, stop it!", along with Darwin's line, "I always do it when I'm nervous." was cut.
• In "The Spoon":
  • Sal Left Thumb's line, "Yeah. Can it and hand over the cash." was shortened to, "Yeah. Hand over the cash." in reruns.
  • Gumball's line, "Exactly! And how do you buy friends? With money!", along with Darwin's line, "Friends?" was cut.
• In "The Painting":
  • Gumball and Darwin's eyes burning were cut in reruns.
  • Nicole's line, "So, that's the whole house washed, the car triple waxed, I've bleached the fruit, alphabetized the fridge and all its contents, and I've polished my cleaning products." was shortened to, "So, that's the whole house washed, the car triple waxed, I've alphabetized the fridge and all its contents, and I've polished my cleaning products." in reruns.
  • When Mr. Small says, "Sticks and stones can break; my bones.", the word "my bones" was muted in reruns.
  • The scene where Gumball smashes the board multiple times was shortened to once in reruns.
  • Close-up of Gumball's face after he smashed the board was cut in reruns.
  • Nicole's line, "I feel so relaxed!" was cut in reruns.
• In "The Laziest":
  • Richard with the remote attached between his butt cheeks was cut in reruns.
• In "The Ghost":
  • Some scenes where Carrie in Gumball's body were cut in reruns.
  • The scene where Carrie takes a turkey leg from the Hobo was cut in reruns.

  • The scene where Idaho and Banana Joe are dancing slowly with parts of their skin peeled off was cut in reruns.
  • The scene where Penny and Gumball talks about a paper plane was cut in reruns.
  • The last scene in which Principal Brown and Miss Simian kiss was partially cut for pervy content. They are only seen for half of a second before it cuts off.
    • In reruns, it fades out.
• In "The Refund":

• In "The Ape":
  • The scene where Gumball's tongue trying to avoid touching Miss Simian's tongue was cut in reruns.
  • Nicole's flashback was cut in reruns.
  • Richard is eating the cake off the floor was cut in reruns.
  • Nicole's line, "We'll see about that, you two-faced baboon!" was shortened to, "We'll see about that!" in reruns.

• In "The Curse":
  • "The Curse" title was changed to, "The Misfortune" (Şanssızlık)
  • Anais' line, "Darwin, stop it already, it's getting embarrassing." was shortened to, "Darwin, it's getting embarrassing."
  • All of the "curse" words were cut.
• In "The Microwave":
  • Gumball is picking lint out of Richard's belly button, Richard drinking out-of-date milk and Gumball holding up the gross jar was cut in reruns.
  • Gumball's line, "Okay, relax. He's just playing. He'll come off on his own." along with Darwin's line, "Okay. Okay. Okay. Aah! His teeth are sinking in!" was cut in reruns.
  • Darwin's line, "But it does like pigeons, rats, raccoons, seagulls, and the mailman's butt." was shortened to, "But it does like pigeons, rats, raccoons, seagulls." in reruns.
  • Gumball's line, "Grown into a trouble maker. This place is a mess! Naughty Kenneth." was shortened to, "This place is a mess! Naughty Kenneth." in reruns.
  • Nicole screams was cut in reruns.

• In "The Fight":
  • When Richard says, "But that's okay, 'cause daddy's here to teach you an old technique that got me out of trouble many times.", the word "trouble" was muted in reruns.
  • Richard's line, "Alright, you be the bully." along with Gumball's line, "Okay." was cut in reruns.
  • Banana Joe's line, "She's gonna skin him alive!" along with Tobias' line, "This will be the greatest fight eveeer!" was cut in reruns.
  • All of the scenes where Gumball's classmates shouting, "Fight!" were cut in reruns.

Banned Episodes

While some episodes were edited down, very few of them were outright skipped or banned from ever airing on the channel due to Turkish regulations, and the show's rating of 7+ (formerly G) in Türkiye. These episodes have remained unaired on Cartoon Network for the longest time.

  • However, all of Penny's appearances since "The Burden" are uncut.
  • Several clips from the episode are seen on YouTube.

  • 2 clips from the episode are seen on YouTube.
• "The Girlfriend", for obvious reasons.
  • Several clips from the episode are seen on YouTube.
• "The Slap" (released on YouTube on January 6, 2017)
• "The Test", due to Tobias flirting with other girls and Gumball vomiting at Tobias at the end. (released on YouTube on March 31, 2017)
• "The Slide", due to romantic themes involving Rocky and Brydie. (released on YouTube on February 3, 2017)
• "The Matchmaker", for obvious reasons.
  • However, two episodes of Carrie's main appearances weren't censored. In "The Best", the scene where Gumball breaks Carrie's phone and kisses her wasn't cut, and the entirety of the episode "The Drama" wasn't banned at all.
• "The Ex", for obvious reasons.
  • Three clips from this episode were released on YouTube on June 25, 2019, December 26, 2019, and April 23, 2020 respectively.
• "The Lady", due to Richard dressed as a woman to make friends.
  • Two clips from this episode were released on YouTube on August 8, 2020 and April 9, 2024 respectively.
• "The Shippening", for obvious reasons.
• "The Agent", due to Darwin being disguised as a spy woman.

Removed episodes

Some episodes were removed from reruns despite being dubbed and released at first due to the changes in the censorship policies of CN Türkiye, especially after 2017. However, they aired many times before being removed, so the episodes can be found easily.

Trivia

• In the premiere of "The Dress", there are two versions of the song "Fine Lady".
• In the premiere of "The Words", the songs featured in the episode, "What He Thinks About Us!" and "No More Mr. Nice Guy!", were initally left undubbed. However, several months later in reruns, these songs were dubbed into Turkish, although yet again left undubbed in 2016 reruns. HBO Max uses the copies featuring the dubbed songs.
• In the TV premiere of "The Blame", Gumball's rap was dubbed, but in August of 2018, a clip was released on YouTube where the rap was undubbed.

• In "The Upgrade", Leslie is voiced by a man while other episodes he's voiced by a woman.
• During the first five seasons of the dub, Gumball, Darwin and Anais call their grandparents "Büyükanne Jojo" (Granny Jojo) and "Büyükbaba Frankie" (Frankie). However, as of the sixth season, they now calling as "Babaanne", "Anneanne" or "Dede", although in "The Parents", they still calling "Büyükanne" and "Büyükbaba".
• The song "I'm a Bun" from the episode "The Night" was dubbed for TV airings, but left in English in YouTube releases.
• During the first two seasons of the show, Darwin calls his adoptive parents, Nicole and Richard, as "Mom" (Anne) and "Dad" (Baba), also, during seasons 3-6, sometimes he calls them "Mom" and "Dad" or "Mrs. Mom" (Bayan Anne) and "Mr. Dad" (Bay Baba).
• The episode "The Knights" is avaliable on Max in Turkey, while "The Move" and "The Love" are not avaliable on said service.

Errors

• During the early seasons of the show, Elmore Junior High was translated as Elmore High School, despite it being a middle school. This was fixed in the later seasons.
• In "The Responsible", after Nicole and Richard return to the house, Gumball, Darwin, and Anais say, "Oh, no", but Gumball and Anais' voices were muted.
• In the premieres of "The Responsible" and "The Dress", the translations for the title cards aren't voice-overed. Several months later in reruns, the title cards are read, but in 2015 and onwards, they were unread again. This was fixed on HBO Max (although "The Dress" was removed from said service in Türkiye in summer 2025) and Netflix.
• In the premiere of "The Dress", Penny's line, "Is that a foreign name?" was muted. Several months later in reruns, the line was dubbed, but as of the premiere of "The Gift", it's muted again. This was fixed on HBO Max (until its removal from the service in Türkiye in summer 2025) and Netflix.
• In "The Spoon", Gumball's line, "He’s gaining on us!" was said by Darwin.
• In "The Gi", Darwin does not say, "S'il te plaît" ("please" in French). Instead of saying "Bitte" ("please" in German), Darwin only says, "por favor" ("please" in Spanish and Portuguese). Similarly, Gumball does not say, "'Olu 'olu" ("please" in Hawaiian), with Darwin's actor saying it instead.
• On Netflix, some episodes are lower-pitched.
• In "The Job", Darwin's line, "We must be getting close." was said by Gumball.
• In "The Words", Principal Brown mispronounces Darwin's surname, Watterson, and instead says, "Darwin Petterson".
• In "The Mothers", Darwin's line, "Round four: agility!" was changed to, "Round one: agility!", despite the fact that round one was speed and round four is agility.
• In "The Money", Richard's line, "But not before converting it into gold." was mistranslated as, "But first I bought gold with all of them."
• On HBO Max, the entirety of the episode "The Romantic" has the original English version on the Turkish audiotrack.
• In "The Box", Clipboard Man's line, "The world as we know it is coming to an end." was changed to a reuse of his latter line, "If only I'd known how the virus got out, maybe the infection could have been prevented," shortened to, "If only I'd known how the virus got out."
• In the early airings of "The Sorcerer", Mr. Small's coughing and laughing was muted. This was fixed in the reruns, where this audio was retained from the original English version. However, the incorrect version is still used on HBO Max.
• On HBO Max, in "The Awareness", Banana Joe's line was said by Gumball.
• In "The Revolt", the episode has an audio error due to the inital deleted scenes from its broadcasts (the scenes in which the toilet, the tattoo machine, and the hoses are revolting were cut). The same error happens in HBO Max.
• In "The Gumball Chronicles: Ancestor Act", when Darwin's lines when he was saying his middle names were delievered by Anais' voice actress.
