Heidi is one of several European Portuguese dubs of アルプスの少女ハイジ. This dub is based on the German version. This dub is the second of 4 different dubs in European Portuguese produced to be distributed in home video format. It is made up of a selection of 38 episodes from the entire series, which tell the whole story in a summarized way.

History[]

These dubs must have been produced mainly because the 1977 dub was the sole property of RTP, the Portuguese state television broadcaster. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the distribution company only authorized the dub of 35 episodes, discarding the other 17 (3 episodes more than in 1992). This dub was distributed initially in VHS format, by the Portuguese company Prisvideo, which distributed 5 VHS, with 35 redubbed chapters. The selection of episodes is unknown, but possibly the most important episodes of the entire series were chosen. Although it is known that this was the number of episodes that were redubbed, it is not known exactly how many chapters were on each VHS.

Later, other VHS were released: In 2002, another company, RBA, published 35 volumes on VHS, with one chapter for each cassette, of this same dub, in parallel with other VHS, published that same year, by Prisvideo. In 2002, Prisvideo released another compilation, now on DVD, with the difference that it included two more chapters, which would confirm that the 1996 dub consists of 37 chapters, and not 35. Years later, again RBA, and Planet DeAgostini, would release this dub on DVD, with only 35 chapters, in 2003 and 2011, respectively.

In 2015, Studio100's official YouTube channel, clube junior, aimed at the public in Portugal, published the complete dubbing, made up of a selection of 38 episodes from the entire series.

This dub is the only one that is currently in distribution in Portugal, through official media, and the one that has dubbed the most episodes. The two next dubs had a much more limited distribution, and it is unknown how many episodes its were dubbed in total.

Trivia[]

  • Unlike the later European Portuguese dubs, this one retains much of the cast from the 2nd dub, possibly because it is the same dubbing studio.
  • This dub, like the other 4 produced, were exclusive to the company that produced them, and there was not a single version as such, so every time the series was released in home format (whether on VHS or later , on DVD), a redub was performed. For this reason, this dub was never broadcast on television.
  • As in the Spanish dubs, Peter's name is adapted as Pedro, which is the most common form of the name in both languages. Other adaptations consider the names in the original German of the book, such as Fräulein Rottenmeier.
  • Unlike the Brazilian version, Heidi's Grandpa is called 'Avô', the Portuguese language word for grandfather. In Brazil, he is called 'Vovô', which is an affectionate way of calling a grandfather, this is the same as the Latin American Spanish version, where he is called 'Abuelito', which is also an affectionate way of calling him. This detail show that the Brazilian and Portuguese versions have certainly been influenced by the Mexican and Spanish dubs, respectively.
    • All the details mentioned above apply to all Heidi's European Portuguese Dubs.
