Hocus Pocus is a 1993 American fantasy comedy horror film directed by Kenny Ortega and written by Neil Cuthbert and Mick Garris. The film initially received mixed reviews and was not a box office success, although subsequent airings on Disney Channel and Freeform have caused the film to garner a cult following. The film follows a villainous comedic trio of witches who are inadvertently resurrected by a virgin teenage boy in Salem, Massachusetts, on Halloween night.
An official sequel, entitled Hocus Pocus 2, was released on Disney+ in 2022.
