Trivia[]

  • Only the English parts were dubbed.
  • The German speaking actors dubbed themselves.
  • The German dialogues in the original English screenplay were translated by renowned writer and director Tom Tykwer.
  • The multilingual scenes were mostly adapted in such a way that they still made sense, even with everyone speaking German.
    • Examples of this are the interrogation scene in which Aldo Raine asks Private Butz several questions in English in the original version, which are then interpreted into German by Corporal Wicki. In German, Raine threatens the private and makes several sarcastic remarks, while the actual interrogation is largely taken over by Wicki.
    • Furthermore, in the German version, Raine does not remark that Master Sergeant Wilhelm speaks English very well for a German, but that he can shoot very well for a German.
    • The most noticeable loss in the German version is Lt. Hicox's light accent. This also leads to a slightly larger plot hole, as Major Hellstrom still addresses Hicox's accent, even though he speaks German just as well as everyone else.
  • The famous German voice actor Christian Brückner has a small voice-only role as Hitler's secretary Kliest. Brückner is arguably most well known as the standard German voice of Robert De Niro.
