Dubbing History[]
Inuyasha was licensed for Latin America by Televix Entertainment, who sent the show to Mexico at the Audiomaster 3000 studio, where the first 104 episodes were dubbed, and then new episodes continued to be dubbed at Audiomaster Candiani due to the closure of the previous studio. However, Televix stopped dubbing the series in episode 160. All of these episodes were recorded in a period from 2002 to 2004.
In 2016, twelve years after the end of dubbing, the license was acquired by the Japan Foundation and the missing episodes were dubbed in Optimedia Bond México with much of the original cast. At the same time, the last saga known as "The Final Act" was also dubbed, thus completing the dubbing of the entire series.
Censorship[]
In its original ran, Televix applied visual censorship in some episodes in order to airing the series at a time suitable for the general public. Most of this censorship focused on editing scenes that contained excess violence, either by digitally removing blood or freezing frames (although some bloody scenes were left unedited, as long as they were relatively minor). Some scenes with nudity were also censored, the most famous case being in episode 1 where the Mistress Centipede is added a digital bikini to cover her exposed chest. All these censorships were also applied to the Brazilian Portuguese dub, also produced by Televix.
It should be noted that these censorships were purely visual, so the script or vocal synchronization were not affected. Since the change of distributor, the most recent airings (like on Netflix) are uncensored.
Trivia[]
- Kagome Higurashi name was changed to "Ahome", probably to avoid double meanings, since Kagome in Spanish sounds similar to "Cagarme" (shit me).
- Also, Rin name is changed to "Lin".
- Leyla Rangel had to replace Ana Lobo as the voice of Ahome in several episodes, because Ana had health problems and later became pregnant.
- Due to the death of Luis Alfonso Padilla in 2012, Naraku is voiced by another actor in The Final Act.
