Iyuno Finland (formerly known as Iyuno-SDI Group, Finland, Iyuno Media Group Finland, BTI Studios Finland, Eskimo Avenue, SDI Media Finland, Dubberman Finland and Sun Studio Finland) is a Finnish recording studio part of Iyuno.

History[]

Sun Studio[]

Sun Studio Finland was the Finnish branch of the Danish dubbing studios group Sun Studio, settled in Helsinki in February 21, 1996.[1][2]

Between 1997 and 2004 it produced dubs for PVP-Voice as both were maneged by Pauli Virta.[3]

On February 11, 2004, Sun Studio A/S registered SC Suomi as a bussiness name of the Finnish branch.[4]

On September 11, 2006, SDI Media acquired Sun Studio, which also included Sun Studio Finland, which became SDI Media Finland on November 20, 2009.[5]

SDI Media[]

SDI Media Finland has its origins in Suomalainen Teksti, a Finnish translation and subtitling company founded in 1989.[6]

The company was later acquired by Subtitling & Dubbing International (SDI) and renamed Subtitling International Finland on June 30, 1995.

On December 29, 2000 the company was renamed again to SDI Media Oy.

Following the purchase of Sun Studio Group by SDI Media in 2006, Sun Studio Finland and SDI Media Oy started operating at the same headquarters, even though still as separate companies.

On October 10, 2018, SDI Media Oy was dissolved and presumably merged with SDI Media Finland (formerly Sun Studio Finland), which would continue its operations as normal.

BTI Studios[]

Movision Oy was a Finnish translation and subtitling company founded in 1984.[7]

On November 11, 2001, Movision was acquired by the Swedish Broadcast Text and renamed Broadcast Text Helsinki.

In 2004, the company was renamed Broadcast Text International Oy.

From 2007 onwards, its new subsidiary Eskimo Avenue began producing dubs in the main Nodic languages, including Finnish. It was closed in 2011 and 2014.[8]

BTI's operations in Finland expanded in the fall of 2012, when it bought MTV Media's translation operations. After the deal, the Finnish Association of Journalists and Akava's Erityisalat placed BTI on an application embargo and overtime ban in November 2012 as a result of the AV translators' collective bargaining. The ban on applications and the ban on overtime ended on May 1, 2015, when some of the translation agencies in the Finnish AV industry signed the industry's first collective agreement with the Journalists' Union and Akava's Erityisalat.[9]

In 2014, the company was renamed BTI Studios Finland.

After the purchase of Dubberman, BTI Studios ended up closing their own and Dubberman's Finnish facilities and in March 2017, BTI moved to new headquarters, where it operated its translation and subtitling services and inherited Dubberman's dubbing projects.

Dubberman[]

Dubberman Finland was the Finnish branch of the Danish dubbing company Dubberman, settled in Helsinki in February 2008.[10]

On October of 2015, BTI Studios acquired Dubberman, as well as it's facilities, as part of their expansion in the Nordic dubbing market.[11]

Iyuno[]

On September 12, 2019, Iyuno Media Group acquired BTI Studios, establishing itself in Finland now through its new subsidiary Iyuno Media Group Finland.[12]

On April 1, 2021, SDI Media was acquired by Iyuno Media Group, which led to the merger of the two companies and, consequently, the same happened with the Finnish subsidiaries of both, creating Iyuno-SDI Group, Finland. Since October 26, 2022, the studio, just as the other global studios of the group, was renamed to Iyuno Finland.[13]
