Iyuno Sweden (formerly known as Iyuno-SDI Group, Sweden, Iyuno Media Group Sweden, BTI Studios Sweden, Eskimo Avenue, Dubberman Sweden, Sun Studio Sweden, SDI Media Sweden, SDI Media Scandinavia, Subtitling and Dubbing International and MediaDubb International) is a Swedish recording studio part of Iyuno.

History[]

SDI Media[]

SDI Media Group has its origins in Svensk Text, a Swedish translation and subtitling company founded in 1974.[1]

In 1990, both the company and its international branches were acquired by the Modern Times Group, which would eventually rename it Subtitling and Dubbing International (SDI).[1]

In 1992 the group acquired MediaDubb International, a Swedish dubbing company founded in 1987.[2]

On July 1, 2004, now known as SDI Media, the group was sold to Warburg Pincus.[3]

On August 31, 2006, MediaDubb was dissolved and merged with SDI Media, becoming SDI Media Scandinavia.[4] On September 11 of the same year, SDI Media acquired the Danish dubbing studios group Sun Studio, which included the Swedish branch Sun Studio Sweden, founded in 1999.[5]

On July 11, 2007, private equity firm Elevation Partners acquired SDI Media Group from Warburg Pincus.[6]

On February 21, 2015, Japanese media company Imagica Robot Holdings partnered with Sumitomo Corporation and the Cool Japan Fund to acquire SDI Media.[7]

BTI Studios[]

Broadcast Text was a Swedish translation and subtitling company founded in 1995 through the merger of the Norwegian Norsk Tekst and the Swedish West Film & Video.[8][9]

In 1999, SBS Broadcasting Group acquired 51% of BTI in exchange for contributing subtitling agreements for a majority of its television stations, and in 2000, SBS acquired the remaining 49% of BTI from Telenor, making it a wholly owned subsidiary of the group.[10]

On October 24, 2007, the company entered the dubbing market through its new subsidiary Eskimo Avenue.[11][12][13] On June 27, BTI became a subsidiary of ProSiebenSat.1 Media with the acquisition of SBS Broadcasting Group.[14]

Valedo, an independent Swedish private equity fund acquired BTI in August 2008 from ProSiebenSat.1.[15]

On September 9, 2013, BTI was sold by Valedo to the North American investment firm, The Carlyle Group.[16]

On January 4, 2012, BTI acquired Zone Studio from Chello Zone, which included Zone Studio Oradea in Romania and Studio Company in Poland.[17]

Apparently, Eskimo Avenue was absorbed in 2014 and began operating under the name of the parent company.[18]

With the purchase of Dubberman, BTI Studios ended up closing Dubberman's Swedish facilities between February and March 2017, from which point dubbing services would be provided from its own facilities.[19] On July 11 of the same year, BTI Studios was acquired by the Swedish private equity firm, Altor.[20]

Following Iyuno's purchase of BTI, the Gothenburg studio was closed sometime in 2020.

Dubberman[]

Dubberman Sweden was the Swedish branch of the Danish dubbing company Dubberman, settled in Stockholm in September 2008.[21]

On October of 2015, BTI Studios acquired Dubberman, as well as it's facilities, as part of their expansion in the Nordic dubbing market.[22]

Iyuno[]

On September 12, 2019, Iyuno Media Group acquired BTI Studios, establishing itself in Sweden now through its new subsidiary Iyuno Media Group Sweden.[23]

On April 1, 2021, SDI Media was acquired by Iyuno Media Group, which led to the merger of the two companies and, consequently, the same happened with the Swedish subsidiaries of both, creating Iyuno-SDI Group, Sweden. Since October 26, 2022, the studio, just as the other global studios of the group, was renamed to Iyuno Sweden.[24]
