Iyuno US

Iyuno US (formerly known as Iyuno-SDI Group, Iyuno Media Group US, BTI Studios US, Broadcast Text, SDI Media USA and Gelula & Co.) is an American recording studio located in Burbank, Los Angeles, California.

Iyuno, a localization company originally founded in South Korea, has its global headquarters located in its Burbank facility in the United States.

History[]

SDI Media[]

Gelula & Co. was a film subtitling company founded in 1971 and incorporated in 1989, in Los Angeles.[1]

On October 18, 1999, Modern Times Group acquired 75% of Gelula's shares, and turned it into a subsidiary of SDI Media.[2]

In July 2000, SDI Media took full control of Gelula after purchasing the remaining 25%.[3] On April 3, 2001 the company was finally renamed SDI Media USA and with the move of its headquarters to Culver City, in addition to the translation and subtitling services that it already offered, the company also started producing dubs from that year onwards.[4]

On September 10, 2004 SDI Media was sold by MTG to the global private equity house, Warburg Pincus.[5]

After the purchase, the company's global headquarters moved from the United Kingdom to the Los Angeles branch. SDI also had a New York branch for subtitling only, which ran from mid-2000s until 2008/2009.

In 2006, the company began producing Latin American Spanish dubs from its Los Angeles headquarters. After the acquisition of the Mexican studio PrimeDubb in 2007, and its consequent renaming to SDI Media de México, the vast majority of SDI's Latin Spanish dubs were moved to Mexico, with only a few Summit / Lionsgate productions remaining in Los Angeles until 2014.

On July 11, 2007, the private equity firm Elevation Partners acquired SDI Media.[6]

In 2010, the company was acquired by the French bank BNP Paribas. On February 21, 2015, a Japanese consortium led by Imagica Robot Holdings and that included Cool Japan Fund and Sumitomo Corporation acquired SDI Media.[7]

On April 25, 2016, SDI Media opened its new global headquarters in Center Drive, Los Angeles.[8]

BTI Studios[]

On March 25, 2003, the Swedish subtitling company Broadcast Text founded its American subsidiary in Tarzana, California. On March 15, 2007, this branch was dissolved.[9]

On April 15, 2014, now as BTI Studios, the company returned to the United States with its new branch, BTI Studios US, located in Burbank, California.[10]

On June 20, 2019, BTI Studios US expanded its facilities and began producing dubs.[11]

Iyuno[]

On September 12, 2019, Iyuno Media Group acquired BTI Studios, establishing itself in the United States now through its new subsidiary Iyuno Media Group US.[12]

On April 1, 2021, SDI Media was acquired by Iyuno Media Group, which led to the merger of the two companies, with SDI Media's global headquarters in Los Angeles becoming the global headquarters of the new Iyuno-SDI Group, and with Iyuno's Burbank studio also continuing to operate under the umbrella of the new company.

Since October 26, 2022, the company was globally renamed Iyuno, while its American studios were renamed to Iyuno US.[13]
