La Petite Sirène is one of two European French dubs of The Little Mermaid. It was released theatrically in France on July 1, 1998. It received a VHS release in late 1998 and a DVD release in 2000.

This dub received negative reception as fans preferred Sebastian's first voice actor Henri Salvador, which led Disney to restore the first dub for the 2006 Platinum Edition and all further releases. Salvador also redubbed Sebastian in the sequel in place of Peyroux.

Trivia[]

  • Ariel, Ursula and Carlotta have the same voice actresses (though in Ariel's case, she was given a separate singing voice actress here) as the 1990 dub.
  • Micheline Dax, who was used to singing in her head voice, stated that she had a lot of difficulties to work on and sing "Poor Unfortunate Souls", which is sung in a low tone. She refused to re-record the song for the 1998 dub, and therefore the first version of the song "Poor Unfortunate Souls" was reused.
  • Miguel Ángel Jenner, the voice of Chef Louis, is a Spanish voice actor and singer. He reprised the role in the European Spanish dub, made in the same year.
