La sirenita is the Latin American Spanish dub of The Little Mermaid. This dub was initially released throughout 1989 and 1990 in all Spanish-speaking countries. Spain would receive its own dub in 1998, but after complaints from fans, VHS copies of the European Spanish dub were pulled from stores and reissued with this dub, leading DVD and Blu-Ray releases in Spain to contain both this dub and the European Spanish dub.

Notes[]

  • Ursula's voice actress Serena Olvido was a trans woman, who was a male-identifying drag queen at the time the dub was produced. The director Javier Pontón sought a female voice actress, but did not find one, but discovered Olvido after watching a performance by her and managed to get her to participate in the dub, on the condition that she would be credited as her stage name and not her legal name by her request.
    • This was most likely in reference to the character design of Ursula, which was based on the iconic drag queen Divine.
