Censorship[]

The film was intended to be released in English in Indonesian theaters on June 15, 2022, but after the country's film censorship board advised Disney that the same-sex kiss between Alisha Hawthorne and her female partner in the film would be considered "sensitive" to local audiences, its theatrical release was eventually pulled by Disney, not wanting to cut any scenes in the film.[1] Homosexuality is widely frowned upon–though not illegal–in Indonesia, except in the sharia law-abiding Aceh province.

Instead, the film (and its Indonesian dub) was released uncensored on Disney+ Hotstar in the country on August 3, 2022, due to a lack of regulation covering streaming services.[2] It was given a 21+ rating, restricting it to adult viewers.[3]

Trivia[]

  • Like in some other dubs of the film, Kamal Nasuti (Buzz Lightyear) had previously dubbed Chris Evans in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Captain America.
