Censorship[]
The film was intended to be released in English in Malaysian theaters on June 16, 2022, but was banned from screening after Disney refused to cut a same-sex kiss between Alisha Hawthorne and her female partner,[2] as homosexuality is illegal in Malaysia.
Despite this, the film (and its Malay dub) was released uncensored on Disney+ Hotstar in the country on August 3, 2022, as Malaysia's censorship laws do not cover streaming services.[3] It was given an 18+ rating, restricting it to adult viewers.[4]
Trivia[]
- Like in some other dubs of the film, Sharul Titis (Buzz Lightyear) had previously dubbed Chris Evans in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Captain America.
- This is the first time that Adzlan Nazir has dubbed in a Disney animated film.
