Lupin III is one of several English dubs of ルパン三世 (1978).
Dubbing History[]
After the big success of the film in Japan, Distributor for the film Toho decided to commission an English dub for International export. They commissioned Frontier Enterprises who had worked with Toho before to produce export dubs for various Godzilla & Toho films. The dub would be released to various airlines in Japan and would be available for local theaters to book from the LA branch of Toho. This dub is considered to be the most accurate to the original Japanese script with the exception of the main cast all getting renamed. Since it was produced for International export the script, names, and footage would be used as the basis for the first Latin American Spanish & Italian dubs. Because TMS didn't own the rights to the dub, It would remain rather obscure as it never saw a wide commercial release (sans a VHS from the Netherlands & an Italian DVD), It would finally be widely available with the release of Discotek's 2013 DVD and later Blu-Ray.[1]
