Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir is the English dub of Miraculous, les aventures de Ladybug et Chat Noir. While most countries always aired the dub on their respective Disney Channel due to Disney having the distribution rights for the series in most countries and later co-producing the series, in the United States where it was produced, it originally ran on Nickelodeon from December 6, 2015 to October 22, 2016, with additional premieres on its sister channel, Nicktoons, and encores on TeenNick. Brief TV rights were soon transferred to the KidsClick block on local syndication from 2017-2019, and during that time, Netflix began streaming the first season, as well as exclusively premiering the next two. Once KidsClick shut down, Disney Channel in the United States finally acquired the rights to the show in 2019, becoming the primary home of new episodes beginning June 2021. All seasons of the show are currently available on Disney+ in select countries.

This dub is produced by Dubbing Brothers USA. It is the most well known Miraculous Ladybug dub, supported by many English-language fans of the show. The dub is very closely involved with the production of the original French version, with the most prominent example being that the show's lip-sync is based on a placeholder English dub, recorded in France, so that the show is more affordable in English-speaking markets.

Several of the show's dubs that are commissioned by Disney use the English dub as a base for dubbing. Outside of the United States, this dub airs on several other channels worldwide, which causes a big amount episodes to premiere first before its home country.

In the United States, Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir originally debuted on Nickelodeon on December 6, 2015. The show also had encores on its sister channels Nicktoons and TeenNick. All of season one, except for Princess Fragrance for unknown reasons, aired on Nick, alongside five episodes of Miraculous Secrets, a short webseries. The dub's original run on the channel ended on October 22, 2016, with the episode "Volpina".

The TV rights to the dub were then transferred to syndication, which aired two seasons of the show from 2017-2019. This run was concurring when Netflix gained the streaming rights to the show, however two episodes did premiere exclusively on this channel during season two.

After various Disney channels worldwide were already airing the show as per usual, the American channel finally acquired the rights to broadcast the first two seasons, and the first premiered on the channel on April 8, 2019. Season two premiered on April 25, 2019. The TV premiere of season three happened exclusively on Disney Channel on June 1, 2020. Season four premiered on June 21, 2021. The "Miraculous World" specials have also been airing on the channel come 2020.

Not all episodes of the dub made their debut in the United States, despite being the dub's country of origin. Instead, many episodes sporadically premiered across a few channels, those being ABC Me in Australia, Family Channel in Canada, Disney Channel in the UK and Ireland, and also Disney Channel in Spain and Portugal, by way of the secondary audio track. Each American channel and service had its own episode order differing from the production order and the one used in France, with the order on Netflix being the most random, due to them waiting for random episodes to be released worldwide before releasing them on their service in batches.

In the United Kingdom and Ireland, Miraculous Ladybug first premiered on Disney Channel on January 30, 2016. The season finished its run on September 24, with the special episode "Santa Claws" airing on December 23. Season 2 would begin airing on November 4, 2017. Season 3 ran from March 4, 2019 to November 30, 2019. The first six Miraculous Secrets shorts also aired on the channel in 2018, while the rest would be released by YouTube. Eventually, the channel shut down on September 30, 2020, due to the success of Disney+ in these regions; this left only the first 3 seasons to have aired.

The show however also airs concurrently on the POP channel since February 11, 2017. Three seasons have aired on the channel as well, with the final episode of season 3 airing on September 17, 2020. The channel took a backseat with episode premieres for a while, although the Shanghai special later aired on February 12, 2022. Additionally, the show aired for a brief time on Pop Max.

In South Africa, the show premiered on Disney Channel on December 6, 2015, with a sneak peek of the episode "Stormy Weather". The show continued airing on February 8, 2016. The episode "Santa Claws" premiered on December 6, 2017, and the rest of season 2 began airing on March 5, 2018. The season took a hiatus on the 24th episode on November 22, 2018; the last two episodes later aired on May 3, 2019. On November 4, 2019, season 3 premiered. Season 4 premiered on September 6, 2021, and ended on April 6, 2022.

In Australia, the show airs on ABC Me since March 22, 2016. Season 2 premiered on October 11, 2018, and season 3 premiered on June 29, 2019. Season 4 premiered on December 1, 2021.

In New Zealand, the show airs on TVNZ 2 since April 27, 2016. The second season later premiered on the channel on August 10, 2020; after season two ended on September 15, 2020, the third season continued airing a day after. The season ended on October 20, 2020, with no new premieres afterwards.

In Canada, the show began airing on Family Channel on October 10, 2016, with a sneak peek of "The Bubbler". The season aired regularly beginning November 1. Season 2 premiered on February 16, 2018. Season 3 premiered on February 4, 2019. Season 4 ran from October 18, 2021 to May 23, 2022.

In Southeast Asia, the show premiered on Disney Channel on November 6, 2018. The second-to-last episode in the first season aired on February 28, 2019, with the episode "Volpina" airing a few months later on April 19, 2019. Season 2 premiered on December 2, 2019, and the season ended in July 30, 2020. Season 3 premiered on September 16, 2020, and ended on August 6, 2021. Season 4 premiered on August 13, 2021. Only 14 episodes got to air before the channel shut down, in favor of Disney+; the last episode premiere aired on September 24, 2021. The point as to how far any feed went depends on when the channel shut down in the country in question, with Singapore being the earliest (only getting to air 2 seasons, and the season ending abruptly on May 24, 2020).

In Singapore, alongside Disney Channel, Okto aired the series beginning February 20, 2019; only one season aired on the channel before its shutdown on May 1, 2019. The show continued airing on Mediacorp's Channel 5 on November 30, 2019. Season 2 premiered on January 22, 2021; the episode "Santa Claws" never aired. Season 3 premiered on December 15, 2021.

Additionally, the dub has aired on Disney Channel in Spain and Portugal, through their secondary audio track, since February 15 and February 22, 2016, respectively. In South Korea, this dub also airs on JEI English TV, with the intent to teach Korean children English.

Streaming

Original

Streaming rights to the dub in the United States were picked up by Netflix. The first season was released on February 10, 2017, with the episode "Santa Claws" being released first on December 20, 2016. The first half of season two was released exlusively on the service on March 20, 2018, and the second half was released December 14. The first half of season three was also released exclusively on August 1, 2019, with the second half on February 1, 2020. Season 4 was added to the service in 2024.

When Disney had picked up rights to the dub in 2019, they also acquired global streaming rights. Episodes were released to their DisneyNOW service as they were aired. On December 18, 2020, the Miraculous World special "New York, United Heroez" was released on Disney+. On July 9, 2021, "Shanghai, the Legend of Ladydragon"" was released. Season 4 was added to the service shortly thereafter and Season 5 as well. On February 1st, 2023, the first three seasons & webisodes were finally added to the service making the show complete.

Miraculous is also currently streaming on the Kabillion VOD service.

International

In the UK and Ireland, all two seasons were released in their entirety on Disney+ on March 24, 2020. All of the Miraculous Secrets shorts were released on June 26, 2020. Season 3 was released on October 1, 2020. Unlike the other three seasons, the fourth season saw a weekly schedule, beginning from October 6, 2021, and ending on April 13, 2022 with the last six episodes.

In Singapore, the entirety of the first three seasons, alongside the Miraculous Secrets shorts were released on Disney+ on February 23, 2021, with the sole exception of the episode "Timetagger", being released on October 1, 2020. The first 13 episodes of season 4 were then released on September 15, 2021.

Controversy

On March 27, 2022, the voice of Mayor André Bourgeois in this dub, Joe Ochman, revealed that he most likely would not return to the work on the series. He revealed that the reason is due to the fact that despite Miraculous being the most popular show he's worked on, it's the one that pays him the least. Other voice actors, Reba Buhr and Anne Yatco, came forth with very similar reasonings for why they would not be returning to series as well at around the same time, and that they would be replaced. Buhr had also revealed that restrictions were also placed to prevent the actors from revealing their salaries to each other.

Fans responded negatively, and the hashtag #ZagPayUp began trending on Twitter. Eventually, on April 2, 2022, the show's executive producer Jeremy Zag tweeted for the first time in five years, confirming that the issue would be fixed. The cast fully returned with increased pay wages.

Some fans have brought up their concern with Ezra Weisz and Mela Lee making sexual comments about Ladybug and Queen Bee at SDCC 2016.^(specify?)

Notes

• While the original language of the series is French, the animation, namely lip-syncing of the characters, has always been based on a placeholder English dub that is done in France, with Matthew Géczy providing the male voices and Tiffany Hofstetter providing the female voices. The actors that produce official voice tracks for the show then record over this dub, with the lines for the French version being re-adapted in order to match the animation. According to series creator Thomas Astruc, this is done to make the series more affordable in English-speaking markets.
• This dub serves as a base for almost all the international versions of the series, particularly ones distributed by Disney.
• Some voice actors had to be replaced for various reasons:
  • Reba Buhr replaced Erin Fitzgerald as Rose Lavillant and Juleka Couffaine.
  • Cassandra Lee Morris replaced Marieve Herington as Sabrina Raincomprix due to Herington becoming a union-only voice actress.
  • Max Mittelman replaced Matthew Mercer as Iván Bruel.
  • Zeno Robinson replaced Benjamin Diskin as Nino Lahiffe and Max Kanté, due to the industry-wide trend of having characters from minority groups be voiced by somebody from that group.
  • Anne Yatco replaced Philece Sampler as Sabine Cheng.
  • Alejandro Saab replaced Kyle McCarley as Marc Anciel due to him not working on the dub for a long time.
  • Lauren Landa replaced Cassandra Lee Morris as Sabrina Raincomprix and Pollen.
• The transformation calls differ in this dub compared to the original French version. Instead of characters exclaiming the kwami's name accompanied with "transforme moi!" (tr. "transform me!"), they instead say the kwami's name accompanied with a transformation phrase that suits the theme of the animal the kwami is based off of.
  • For example, the transformation phrase for the Ladybug Miraculous is "Tikki, spots on", and the phrase for the Cat Miraculous is "Plagg, claws out".
  • This dub also makes the additional rule in which when a Miraculous is used for evil purposes, the transformation call slightly changes to suit the users nefarious needs. The only prominent example of this is the Butterfly Miraculous' transformation phrase being "Nooroo, dark wings rise".
  • Similarly, the detransformation phrases also differ. Instead of speaking "detransformation" like the French version, Miraculous users must again speak a specific detransformation phrase that opposes the uniquely given transformation phrase; for example, the Ladybug phrase is "spots off", and the Cat phrase is "claws in".
  • Most other international dubs follow these similar rules.
    • Although the dub did not initially reveal the transformation phrases for the Ox, Goat and Rooster Miraculous in the episode "Penalteam", they were instead revealed on the official Miraculous Ladybug website, through Ivan/Minotaurox, Nathaniel/Caprikid and Marc/Rooster Bold's character descriptions respectively.
• Marinette has been said to be a middle schooler in ninth grade, however the English dub changes it in "The Pharaoh" to her being a high schooler in tenth grade.
• Only 54 episodes within the first five seasons so far of the dub have premiered first in its country of origin, the United States, including "Ikari Gozen", which was first previewed at SDCC 2019.
  • This means that 77 episodes so far have premiered in other countries first, specifically Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom and Ireland, Spain, and Portugal. Two episodes have also aired first in Southeast Asia.
• The theme song of seasons 1-3 was performed by Wendy Child and Cash Callaway. In seasons four and five, when the instrumentals and structures of the theme were both changed, the English version replaced the original vocals with that of Lou and Lenni-Kim, who had their official English cover of the theme published to YouTube on November 25, 2017.
  • Lou and Lenni-Kim also performed the theme song to the French version starting season 2.
  • It was originally announced that the version sung by Laura Marano would be used for season 2, although the version by Child and Callaway was used in the final product.
  • In the original releases of the song, Wendy Child speaks Marinette's opening narration, but in later releases of the song, Cristina Vee's version of the narration, from the show's opening theme, is used instead.
    • In the former, Marinette's name is mispronounced, using a short "a" (like in "scar") as opposed to a long one (like in "bare").
  • In the English theme song for season 4, Marinette's vocals are noticeably deepened, for reasons not even Cristina Vee knows.
• In season 3, the superpower granted by the Horse Miraculous, Voyage, is pronounced in the same way as it is in English, with a long a (as in "baby"). However, in season 4, the French pronounciation of the word, that has a short a (as in "dark"), is instead used for unknown reasons.
• Despite the fact that the Miraculous jewels are referred to as 'Miraculous' in both singular and plural form, earlier episodes of this dub also refer to them as 'Miraculouses' in their plural form.
• Thomas Astruc confirmed that Marc's superhero name, Coq Courage, was altered in this dub due to concerns of it sounding inappropiate in English.
  • The English name, Rooster Bold, is most likely a reference to the DC Comics superhero Booster Gold.
• For the dub of the episode "Le Patineur" (Frozer), Cristina Vee was told that she could say whatever she wanted when Ice Ladybug whispers her plan to Ice Cat Noir. What Vee whispered was "I wish you would kiss me".
• A few times in season 1, Marinette would refer to her parents as mama and papa. However, on every other occasion, she just calls them mom and dad.
• In the original French version, Jagged Stone has an American accent. However, since everyone in this dub already has an American accent, he speaks with a British accent instead to maintain his distinction.
  • However, Lex Lang's performance of this accent slips a few times, such as when he says "Fang" or when he drops T's from words like "water". He also noticeably slows his speech down to try and avoid this for lines that are harder to say with a fake English accent.
• In the original French version, Juleka's dialogues are sometimes purposely made impossible to understand consistenly. However, Erin Fitzgerald's voice acting for Juleka in season 1 of this dub makes what she says clearly understandable.
  • This change has significantly effected other dubs of the series that are based off the English dub; in the Dutch version, her voice is much louder compared to any other dub.
  • Thomas Astruc despises this change, claiming the modification ruins her character.
  • However, Reba Buhr's performance used from season 2 onwards is vastly similar to the French voice. It is only up until the episode "Crocoduel" when Buhr's voice acting for Juleka strongly resembles Fitzgerald's, as she speaks more loudly and clearly as a superhero as a result of the character finally gaining self confidence.
• For the dub of the season 2 episode "Capitaine Hardrock", Reba Buhr was advised to sing in a deeper, heavy metal-like voice for performing Rose's unicorn song at the end of the episode. Her performance was even referenced from a video of a man singing in heavy-metal. However, for the dub of the season 3 episode "Silence", she was allowed to sing with her own natural, pop music-like singing voice for a different but extended rendition of the song.
  • As most dubs of the series are based of the English dub, international dubs also had the same differentiating vocal performances for these episodes. This has caused the original French version of the season 3 version of the song to seem more parodic and comedical if anything, as Rose still sings with a heavy metal-like voice.
• Sometimes, Ladybug's rejections of Cat Noir's romantic advances are made harsher. For example, in "Audimatrix" (Prime Queen), when Cat Noir tries to kiss Ladybug twice, in the French version, Ladybug's response translates into "Now's not the time", whereas in the English version, she directly says "Not a chance".
• Ezra Weisz has confirmed that season 5 episodes are currently being dubbed into English out of production order, but he strongly hopes the episodes do all release in their chronological, production order.
• In the season 5 episode "Illusion", Cat Noir was originally supposed to say "All's well that ends well" in one scene, with his mouth being lip-sync animated to fit this dialogue. However, it was changed to the pun "Now that's some awesome-sauce" at the last second to fit into the theme of condiment-related codenames throughout the episode.

Errors

• In the Christmas special, after singing his verse of the song 'Ça ira mieux demain' ('Brand New Day'), Cat Noir detransforms into Adrien by saying "claws out", when it should be "claws in".
• In "Queen Wasp", fans noticed that Ladybug's statement that Miraculous are indestructible is false, since in the "Chronogirl" (Timebreaker), Alix's watch, which is later confirmed to be the Rabbit Miraculous, easily breaks after being rollskated over. Thomas Astruc claimed this wasn't in the script originally, but Ladybug still says the same thing in the French version.
• In "Chasseuse de Kwamis" (Kwamibuster), when Multimouse fuses Mullo and Trixx to become Multifox, she refers to Mullo by her original in-production name, Toppo. She also says their names the other way around when summoning their respective Miraculous powers.
• In "Éphémère" (Ephemeral), after Ryuko tries to destroy Moolak's safe, she tells Ladybug that her powers aren't working in the original French version. In this dub however, she doesn't say anything.

Censorship

• Any mild bad language from the French version, such as Alya and Cat Noir saying 'hell' in "Le Bulluer" and "Mensonge" respectively, are altered.
• International Disney Channels broadcast the dub with dimmed lighting for some transformation and superpower sequences to avoid eyestrains or seizures.
  • A primary example is Ladybug's de-evilization sequence, in which her yoyo turns into a very bright, white ball of light that flies past the screen for a few seconds; the frame rate is typically slowed down. In later episodes, the yoyo is removed within these frames.
• During Family Channel broadcasts of the episode "Ladybug", Mayura's line "I release you... from existence" while destroying the sentimonster Ladybug was muted.
