This article is about the Brazilian Portuguese dub. For the European Portuguese dub, see here. |
My Little Pony: A Amizade é Mágica is the Brazilian Portuguese dub of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. Dubbed in São Paulo, it first premiered on Discovery Kids in Brazil on November 21, 2011. The channel had a tendency of cutting certain scenes that were either deemed not appropriate, or for time constraints. Since December 17, 2018, it also airs on TV Cultura.[1] The dub completed its original run on August 19, 2020, with the series finale not airing on Discovery Kids.
The dub is available on Netflix and, as of July 30, 2022, season 9 is on Globoplay. Various DVDs were released in Brazil, distributed by FlashStar Home Video.[2] On September 19, 2020, the official Portuguese My Little Pony YouTube channel began uploading full episodes of the dub, starting with the episode "The Return of Harmony Part 1".[3] A demo dub of the episode "The Ticket Master" was released prior on DVDs in 2011.

Demo DVD dub[]
As with other dubs of the show, a Portuguese demo dub of the episode "The Ticket Master" was issued and sold on DVDs in 2011, featuring a different voice cast for the main characters, and opening theme. It was titled My Little Pony: Amizade é Pura Mágica. When the finalized dub was being produced, this episode was re-recorded with the new cast for consistency.

Censorship[]
Discovery Kids is prone to making cuts and censoring many scenes of the show that they would deem to be unsuitable for its target demographic, or otherwise for time.
The season nine episode "The Last Crusade", as well as the series finale "The Last Problem", were banned from airing the channel, likely due to the presence of LGBT characters. The former features Scootaloo's aunts who were later confirmed to be a lesbian couple, while the latter implies that Lyra Heartstrings and Bon Bon are married. However, LGBT content does not experience censorship in Brazil, where same-sex marriage was legalized nationwide in 2013.
As Globoplay eventually began hosting season 9, "The Last Crusade" was made available on July 30, while "The Last Problem" was made available on August 1, 2022, thus officially completing the dub.

Notes[]
- Zecora constantly switches between rhyming and not rhyming. The only episodes where she rhymed in all of her lines were A Friend in Deed and the entirety of seasons 3 and 4.
