Niko: Beyond the Northern Lights (also known as The Magic Reindeer: Saving Santa’s Sleigh in UK and Ireland or Niko Saves Christmas in South Africa) is a 2024 Finnish-German-Irish-Danish computer-animated Christmas film directed by Kari Juusonen & co-directed by Jørgen Lerdam from a screenplay by Kari Juusonen, Hannu Tuomainen, and Marteinn Thorisson. Produced by Anima Vitae and Cinemaker, co-produced by Ulysses Filmproducktion, A-Film, and Moetion Films, with Hannu Tuomainen, Antti Haikala, Emely Christians, and Moe Honan serving as producers. It is the third installment in the Niko series and the sequel to Niko 2: Little Brother, Big Trouble.
In his third adventure, the flying reindeer boy Niko’s biggest dream is to become a member of Santa’s Flying Forces. But he gets challenged by the super talented reindeer girl Stella who shatters that dream. Niko has to decide between trust and loyalty.
This film was first announced in July 2, 2019, [1] production for the film started in late-2021 and was completed during late-2023.
Niko: Beyond the Northern Lights premiered at Giffoni Film Festival in Italy on July 21, 2024, and was released in Finland on October 11, 2024, and in the UK & Ireland on November 22, 2024. The film was released digitally in Australia and New Zealand on December 4, and in the United States on December 10, skipping a theatrical release.
