Peter Pan is a 2003 fantasy adventure film directed by P. J. Hogan, written by him and Michael Goldenberg and based on J.M. Barrie's 1904 play and 1911 novel Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up. Jason Isaacs plays both Captain Hook and George Darling, Olivia Williams plays Mary Darling, Jeremy Sumpter plays Peter Pan, Rachel Hurd-Wood as Wendy Darling, and Ludivine Sagnier as Tinker Bell. Lynn Redgrave portrays Aunt Millicent, a brand-new character made specifically for the movie, in a supporting role.
Universal Pictures, Columbia Pictures, and Revolution Studios released Peter Pan in theaters in the United Kingdom on December 24, 2003, and the United States on December 25, 2003. The film had its London premiere on December 9, 2003, at the Empire in Leicester Square. Critics gave the picture largely excellent reviews, praising the performances (especially Sumpter, Hurd-Wood, and Isaacs), images, romantic mood, and James Newton Howard's score. However, it was a financial flop, making $122 million worldwide against a projected budget of $130.6 million (excluding marketing costs), which amounts to a $70-95 million loss.
