Pretty Woman is a 1990 American romantic comedy film directed by Garry Marshall based on a script by J. F. Lawton. The film stars Richard Gere and Julia Roberts, with Héctor Elizondo, Ralph Bellamy (in his final performance), Laura San Giacomo, and Jason Alexander in supporting roles. The film's plot revolves around Hollywood escort Vivian Ward and wealthy businessman Edward Lewis. Vivian is recruited as Edward's escort for a number of business and social events, and their relationship grows throughout her week-long stay with him. The film's title, Pretty Woman, is inspired on Roy Orbison's 1964 song "Oh, Pretty Woman".

The film was originally supposed to be a dark cautionary tale about class and sex work in Los Angeles, but it was reimagined as a large-budget romantic comedy. When Pretty Woman was released, critics gave the film mixed reviews, but Roberts' performance was widely praised. It has the highest amount of ticket sales in the United States for a romantic comedy, according to Box Office Mojo, with 42,176,400 projected domestic tickets sold, slightly ahead of My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002), which sold 41,419,500 tickets. The film grossed US$463.4 million worldwide and was the fifth-highest-grossing film of all time at the time of release, trailing only E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial ($701 million), Star Wars ($530 million), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade ($474 million), and Jaws ($470 million). It was also Walt Disney Studios' highest-grossing R-rated film, keeping the record for 34 years until Marvel Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine broke it in 2024.

Pretty Woman propelled Roberts to popularity, garnering her the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress - Motion Picture Comedy or Musical, as well as her first Academy Award nomination for Best Actress and BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. The film was also nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Film and the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy.
