Dubbing History[]
ZDF broadcast a selected 39 episodes between 1972 and 1975. The missing episodes (with the exception of "Patterns of Force") were dubbed from 1985 and shown on Sat.1 from 1987. The ZDF episodes were mostly very heavily abridged. The episode "Amok Time" was the most severely affected, with its plot almost completely changed.
The first restoration attempts were made in 1997. "Amok Time" and the episode "Metamorphosis" were elaborately supplemented with new recordings. Most of the voice actors from the 1970s and 1980s were used again, apart from Gert Günther Hoffmann, who was replaced by Thomas Danneberg.
When all the ZDF episodes were completed in 2004, most of the existing material was used for the two previous episodes, except for Danneberg's Kirk recordings, which were replaced again.
One episode that was not bought up by either ZDF or Sat.1 was "Patterns of Force", which was omitted from television because of its Nazi theme. This episode was already dubbed in 1995 and premiered at a convention. Soon after, it was also available on video.
Notes[]
- Yeoman Rand's rank was always different in the German version. Most often, she was simply referred to by her first name. At some point, the rank of Corporal was established, but it doesn't really fit the picture. It's an army rank, whereas the starfleet is based on the navy hierarchy.
