Translations[]
- Oscar (and other Grouches) were last translated as "Nurks". Originally, "Mopperkont" and "Moppermonster" were used. All of these mean "grumpy" or "grumble" in Dutch, with the lattermost meaning "grumble monster".
- Cookie Monster speaks grammatically correct as opposed to his simple speech pattern.
- Big Bird's name, "Neef Jan", means "Cousin John", and was devised to differentiate him from Pino, the local version of Big Bird, making him his cousin.
