Sonic Underground is one of two European Portuguese dubs of the show of the same name. Produced by Nacional Filmes, it premiered on TVI in Portugal on July 21, 1999, as part of the children's programming block Batatoon. In 2000, it reaired on the block Mix Max.[1][2][3][4][5][6]

Eight years after its premiere, Canal Panda would air the series in its original English version, with Portuguese subtitles that were translated by Ana Ventura of Santa Claus. In 2011, KidsCo would air their own dub, co-produced by Dialectus and Via Satélite.

Notes[]

  • This was the first TV series in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise to be dubbed in European Portuguese.[8] Because of this, Sonic Underground remains the most well-known Sonic series in Portugal, mostly due to its dubbed theme song.
  • While the opening theme is dubbed, the other songs in the show were left in English. The same is the case with the KidsCo dub.
  • Carlos Macedo would later reprise his role as Sonic in KidsCo's dub of the series.
  • Two characters had their names pronounced incorrectly in this dub:
    • Manic's name was pronounced as "Mánique".
    • Queen Aleena's name was pronounced as "Aliena".
