Spaceballs is an American space opera parody film from 1987 that Mel Brooks co-wrote, produced, and directed. It is essentially a spoof of the original Star Wars trilogy, but it also references other sci-fi films and iconic franchises such as Star Trek, Alien, The Wizard of Oz, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Planet of the Apes, and Transformers. Bill Pullman, John Candy, and Rick Moranis star in the picture, which also features Daphne Zuniga, Dick Van Patten, George Wyner, Lorene Yarnell, and Joan Rivers' voice.

In Spaceballs, heroic mercenary Lone Starr (Pullman) and his alien sidekick Barf (Candy) save Princess Vespa (Zuniga) of Druidia and her droid, Dot Matrix (Yarnell, voiced by Rivers), from being kidnapped by the Spaceballs, led by President Skroob (Brooks), who want to use Vespa as a ransom to obtain Druidia's air for their planet. However, the heroes become stranded on a desert moon, where they meet the wise Yogurt (also Brooks), who educates Starr about the metaphysical power known as "the Schwartz". Meanwhile, Spaceball leaders Dark Helmet (Moranis) and Colonel Sandurz (Wyner) spearhead the search for them, but are hampered by their own ineptness.

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) released the picture on June 24, 1987. As of June 2024, work on a sequel was in its early stages.
