Censorship[]

The edits underneath are all inherited from the Turner EMEA/WarnerMedia EMEA master prints, and are shared with other EMEA-region feeds. However, Cartoon Network Portugal likely did not add any additional unique censorship to the series not shared with other feeds, and the Turner EMEA/WarnerMedia EMEA master prints are used directly on Cartoon Network Western Europe. Most of these edits are also present on Max, which (with the possible exception of "Arcade Mania") also uses the Turner EMEA/WarnerMedia EMEA master prints.

  • In "Frybo", the part where Steven says "Your move, Frybo. Attack!" and has a fry in his mouth positioned similarly to a cigarette right before his pants attack Frybo was cut.
  • In "Steven's Lion":
    • Ronaldo exclaiming, "Steven's pregnant?!" was cut out, cutting directly to "I have a giant pet lion right outside!".
    • Ronaldo's line, "I bet you're not even pregnant" was muted. However, Ronaldo's mouth can still be seen moving. It is unknown whether this line is muted in the European Portuguese dub, however.
      • Strangely, despite this censorship, the "Baby Maybe?" image from "Rising Tides, Crashing Skies" was left unedited.
  • In "Arcade Mania":
    • The arcade game Meat Beat Mania was digitally edited to become simply Beat Mania.
    • Both instances of Steven saying the name "Meat Beat Mania" were cut entirely.
    • On Max, this episode is likely uncensored, with Meat Beat Mania's name visually unaltered and both instances of Steven referring to the game by name retained.
  • In "Steven the Sword Fighter", the scene where Pearl drops her sword after being stabbed by Holo-Pearl was cut, and again in Steven's flashback.
  • In "Coach Steven", Steven saying, "You can beat up Lars, and you can starve to death if Sadie divorces you!" followed by Lars' line, "We're not MARRIED!!!" were cut.
  • In "Joking Victim":
    • The shots containing the lyrics, "Take both hands! Push below the diaphragm!" during the Big Donut training videotape were removed.
    • The part where Steven is performing the Heimlich maneuver on Lars was also cut.
  • In "Monster Buddies":
    • Garnet yelling, "Steven!" then kicking the Centipeetle in the ice cave was cut.
    • The scene where the Centipeetle Mother got crushed under the stalactite, and the closeups of it closing its mouth and its gem dimming were all cut.
  • In "Story for Steven", Rose's line, "...and I really wanna play with you." was cut.
  • In "The Message", Pearl's comment, "I can't believe my flipping eyes" was cut along with Garnet's line, "Everyone, listen up!".
  • In "The Return", in the scene where Garnet is poofed, her visor and body snapping and breaking was cut. After she gets shocked, it cuts straight to her poof cloud.
    • Despite the censorship in this episode, during the flashback in "Full Disclosure", Garnet breaking up was not censored.
  • In "Jail Break", during "Stronger Than You", the shot of Jasper hitting Garnet and the other shot of Garnet hitting Jasper and smashing her Crash Helmet were both replaced with white flashes of light.
  • In "Keeping It Together", Garnet saying the Earth would become "janked" along with Amethyst's line, "Garnet! That mouth!" was cut.
  • In "We Need to Talk":
    • The part of Rainbow Quartz's fusion dance where Pearl gives Greg a devilish smile while she's hanging upside down, the part of Rainbow Quartz's dance where she drops down in front of Greg, and a couple of other shots were replaced with repeats of Greg playing the guitar.
    • After Rose says Greg's name, Greg shivering was cut. Rose saying to Greg, "Is this torture?" and Greg responding, "The worst." was also cut.
  • In "Onion Friend", Amethyst's line, "do you ever hear from Ol' Farty Marty?" was shortened to "Do you ever hear from Ol' Marty?" This likely causes the audio to audibly cut in the European Portuguese dub of the episode, which likely did not directly adapt the line from the UK/EMEA print.
  • In "Earthlings":
    • The part where Smoky Quartz kicks Jasper in the face was shortened, with some frames of the precise moment when Jasper gets hit removed.
    • When corrupted Jasper is stabbed with the metal pole, the part where the camera pans down at the metal sticking out of her, and the shot from the rear, were cut.
  • In "Three Gems and a Baby", all indications of the diapers being for adults have been removed. Some frames of that moment were cut.
  • In "A Single Pale Rose", the scene in which Pink Diamond swallows the fake gemstone fragments was censored.

Notes[]

  • The actress Vânia Pereira (who voiced both Lapis Lazuli and Peridot) was replaced without the dubbing studio commenting on the matter. It is speculated that this happened due to her releasing a short clip of the song "That Distant Shore", from the season 5 episode "Can't Go Back", which had not even been shown in the United States at that point.
    • The song "That Distant Shore" was re-recorded by Teresa Queirós once the episode aired, and the lyrics of the song itself are completely different to that of what Vânia Pereira had initially posted.
    • Cartoon Network Portugal's YouTube channel released a video titled "Toony Tube | Top de Canções de Steven Universe", where the song "Sadie Killer and the Suspects" is sung by Vânia Pereira.
      • Later, when the episode "The Big Show" was broadcast, the song was then sung by Joana Africano. However, Vânia Pereira still provided the chorus in the song "G-G-G-Ghost" of the same episode, despite being terminated from the studio.
    • This proves that, in addition to the fact that Vânia Pereira had still voiced Peridot in the episode "Letters to Lars" (which premiered after her departure from the studio), she had dubbed, at least, the episodes "Can't Go Back" and "The Big Show", before being replaced by Teresa Queirós and Joana Africano.
    • The first time the episode "Sadie Killer" was broadcast, the song "The Working Dead" was sung by Vânia Pereira. When the episode was reaired, the song was re-recorded by Joana Africano, with completely different lyrics. The second version removes all mentions of death, zombies, or devouring brains, replacing them with references to tiredness and work.
