Censorship[]
Although French dubbing team received the Turner EMEA masters (based on the UK edits), CN France had restored a few of the censored scenes.
- In "Arcade Mania":
- The arcade game Meat Beat Mania was digitally edited to become simply Beat Mania.
- All instances of Steven saying the name "Meat Beat Mania" was cut entirely.
- In "Joking Victim":
- The shots containing the lyrics, "Take both hands! Push below the diaphragm!" during the training videotape for the Big Donut were removed.
- The part where Steven is performing the Heimlich maneuver on Lars was cut.
- In "Island Adventure", Lars' and Sadie's exaggerated kiss, specifically the back-rubbing and moaning sounds, was removed. Only Lars' lips touching Sadie's is seen before the scene cuts off.
Steven Universe - Stronger Than You (French, version 1)
The original version of the song, with Garnet singing about "friendship" rather than love.
Fusion surprise - Steven Universe - Cartoon Network
The redubbed version of the song, featuring an accurate translation of the original.
- In "Jail Break":
- Every time Jasper hits Garnet, the scene was replaced with a bright white flash.
- When Garnet hits Jasper and smashes her crash helmet, the scene was replaced with a bright white flash.
- In the first few airings of the episode, Garnet sang that she was made of 'friendship' in "Stronger than You," rather than love.[3] This was likely actually due to a translation error rather than censorship. Cartoon Network France had reportedly responded to the backlash by saying that the song did contain one lyric saying "we love each other" (nous on s'aime). In the same month, after massive outrage from French fans, the song was redubbed with the lyrics retranslated to be faithful to the original.
- In "We Need to Talk":
- Pearl and Rose's fusion dance is restored from the Turner EMEA edit.
- The part of Rainbow Quartz's dance where she drops down in front of Greg was replaced with Greg playing the guitar.
- The following dialogue was entirely cut:
- - Greg.
- - Rose?
- - Is this torture?
- - The worst."
- In "Greg the Babysitter", the shot of Greg eating from the trash can was reduced.
- In "Earthlings":
- The part where Smoky Quartz backflips and kicks Jasper in the face was cut.
- When corrupted Jasper is stabbed with the metal pole, the part where the camera pans down at the metal sticking out of Jasper, and the shot from the rear, were cut.
- In "A Single Pale Rose", the part where Pink Diamond eats the Gem Shards was removed, instead showing Steven hiding behind her palanquin.
Notes[]
- In the episode "Mr. Greg", all the songs were left in English with French subtitles, despite all other songs being dubbed.
