The Backyardigans is an American-Canadian computer-animated musical children's TV series created by Janice Burgess. The series was written and recorded at Nickelodeon Animation Studio. It centers on five animal neighbors who imagine themselves on fantastic adventures in their backyard. Each episode is set to a different musical genre and features four songs, composed by Evan Lurie with lyrics by McPaul Smith. The Backyardigans' adventures span many different genres and settings.

The show ran for four seasons totaling 80 episodes. The first three seasons aired on Nickelodeon on weekday mornings. Nickelodeon only aired eight of the fourth season's 20 episodes; the remaining episodes aired exclusively on the separate Nick Jr. channel, however, the show last aired in 2018, ending it's run on the channel.

Broadcast

In the United States, The Backyardigans previously aired on Nickelodeon, Nick Jr. (previously Noggin), and Nick on CBS with a TV-Y rating. The show also formerly aired in Spanish on Univision's Planeta U block at 8:30am from June 25th, 2011 to mid 2013, when its timeslot moved to 9:00am until 2014 when it moved to its 10:30am timeslot, and the show continued to air until July 25, 2015.

Worldwide, the show airs on Nickelodeon and/or Nick Jr, but because the show's international broadcasts are handled by Corus Entertainment, channels that weren't related to Viacom or the family of Nickelodeon channels were licensed to pick up the show; for example, the Brazilian Portuguese and Latin American Spanish dubs were broadcast on Discovery Kids (a Corus-owned network), the French dub was broadcast in Canada on Télé-Québec, in Poland on TVP's line of networks, in Portugal on RTP1, RTP2, and Canal Panda, in Serbia on Ultra and Mini, in Spain on Boomerang and Cartoonito, in Norway on TV2 Junior, in Israel on the Hop!, in South Korea on EBS, and in New Zealand, on TVNZ 2.

Corus, under its company Nelvana, also allowed online content for the show, such as on Netflix, and a newly produced Chinese dub.
