The Fearless Four is a 1997 English-language German animated musical film directed by Michael Coldewey, Eberhard Junkersdorf, Jürgen Richter and Wolfgang Urchs, from a screenplay by Bert Henry, Dagmar Kekulé, Georg Reichel and Markus Urchs. It is loosely based on the folk tole "Town Musicians of Bremen" by the Brothers Grimm, and combines 2D animation with CGI. Produced by Munich Animation (as their first production) the movie was made between 1995 and 1996, and was originally recorded in English, then dubbed for its German cinematic release. The film had its premiere in theaters in Germany on October 2, 1997, released by the German unit of Warner Bros. (under the Warner Bros. Family Entertainment label). Warner Bros. also distributed the film worldwide, including United States, where the film was released on VHS on May 7, 1998.
For the English release (and virtually every release besides the German one), about 6 minutes of material was cut, either by deleting or shortening scenes, in general that was deemed too inappropriate - including some sexual or too dark/frightening content and such.
