The Ren & Stimpy Show (also known simply as Ren & Stimpy) is an American animated television series created by Canadian animator John Kricfalusi. Originally produced by Spümcø for Nickelodeon, the series aired from August 11, 1991, to December 16, 1995, with a total of five seasons and 51 episodes, the 52nd premiering on October 20, 1996 on MTV. The series follows the adventures of the title characters: Ren Höek, an emotionally unstable and sociopathic Chihuahua; and Stimpy, a good-natured yet dimwitted cat.
The Ren & Stimpy Show was one of Nickelodeon's first original animated series—known as "Nicktoons"—alongside Rugrats and Doug. As of 2021, 37 episodes are available to watch on Paramount+.
A revival for adult audiences, Ren & Stimpy "Adult Party Cartoon", was produced by Kricfalusi and Spümcø and aired in 2003 on Spike TV. Only three episodes were aired before the series was canceled due to negative reviews, with three additional episodes being released straight to DVD. On August 5, 2020, Comedy Central announced that they had ordered a reboot of the series to be produced without the involvement of Kricfalusi, this was later titled to be Ren & Stimpy.

Censorship[]
Throughout its broadcast, the series had a series of censorships and modifications due to inappropriate content for the younger audience to which the show was originally targeted.
- In the episode "Big House Blues", after the warden tells Ren and Stimpy to have fun, his line "See if I care" is cut in all broadcasts, as is the scene where Ren accidentally kisses Stimpy on the mouth in his sleep, and goes to wash his mouth in the toilet. Both scenes would not receive dubs as part of the original series.
- Both scenes would be restored in Ren & Stimpy "Adult Party Cartoon", and would receive dubs.
- In the episode "Sven Hoëk":
- After Sven jumps into Stimpy's litter box, a scene where they play circus with the litter was cut before broadcast. This scene would eventually be restored in the DVD version released by Paramount, but it has never been dubbed.
- The Persian dub is based on the uncut DVD version, however the majority of the second act with Sven meeting Stimpy is cut, taking this scene with it.
- After Ren sees the damage Stimpy and Sven have done to his belongings, he makes various violent threats against them. In this scene, Ren's line, "And then, I'm gonna gouge your eyes out. Yeah, that's what I'm gonna do," was cut before broadcast. This scene would eventually be restored in the DVD version with a timecode included, but it has never been dubbed.
- Ironically, in the Latin American Spanish dub Ren does say "I'm going to gouge out their eyes", but the line is in the previous scene.
- The Persian dub has the scene included due to being based on the DVD version. However, the dubbers cut the scene themselves, likely due to the timecode.

- The episode "Stimpy's Fan Club" was banned in some countries due to Ren threatening to kill Stimpy.
- In "Son of Stimpy", A scene involving Stimpy asking a police officer about Stinky and being kicked out after is removed in all US airings. However, it's still available on the DVD version. It should be noted that this scene was included in certain international airings, such as the Nickelodeon Japan airings.
